Solvang to Ojai - waffles and wine...

Post by tobes »

Did a ride yesterday 1/20 from Van Nuys to Solvang and back down to Ojai via the 166 and 33. About 380 miles total.

Pulled into Solvang around 9:45 and got breakfast at Paula's Pancake House then took a quick walk through town.

Then out of Solvang on Foxen Cyn and a stop at Foxen Winery to get a bottle of 06' Pinot.

A stop at the vinyards then on to Tepusquet.

Right on to Rt 166 to Rt 33

Stopped for a late lunch. This place, "The Place", was popular with dirt riders.

Rt 33 into Ojai. Love this road.

Thank you for this ride report. It looks beautiful there. It makes me miss California. I need to get back there one day.......

And when I do, I want to ride this rode. Can you tell me where it is specifically, and if it is like this for a long distance, or is it just a short run? AND, that rode coming out of Ojai in your picture, is that still 33?

AND - I see people (women) wearing jackets walking along the streets in the towns. Can you tell me what the temperatures were like when you were riding?

Haven’t opened that Pinot yet but am looking forward to it. I had a sample in Foxen’s tasting room and it was very nice – fruity and mild spice. Next weekend for sure! :D

That photo is of Tepusquet Rd. It is about 15 miles total. Mostly it is a meandering road; however, it does summit a hill and approaching the top and down the other side it has very tight turns for a couple of miles. Then it open back up approaching CA-166. The views at the top are beautiful. This road is nice in conjunction with Foxen Cyn. Note that Tepusquet has a bridge that it washed out and requires a detour. When coming from Foxen Cyn it’s just a matter of continuing past Tepusquet and making a right on Santa Maria Mesa and then picking up Tepusquet again. Here is a map: http://tinyurl.com/ysfmop

The road coming out of Ojai is RT150 and goes to Santa Paula. Here is a map: http://tinyurl.com/2xcwpc

The temps in Ojai I believe were in the high 60’s. Cool in the shade and nice in the sun. Riding in the upper elevations it would drop to the 50’s.

Great Pics! Thanks for posting them for us. We are topographically derived in Florida and I loved riding vicariously through those mountains. And, oh man, what gorgeous sunsets there are in those mountains!
Nice job. :D

BTW, it looks like those oranges are ready...
