service questions

Post by Acpantera »

I have a service manual cd and none of the service or inspection forms list a replacement requirement for the fuel filter. Also, on all the forms is a line that says "record onboard documentation"......is that something that is put in the bikes computor by the mechanic or does that mean write it in the owners manual?

I think the fuel filter is now a realistic requirement.. ie - change it when it needs changing. Fuel filters can last almost indefinately IF they don't encounter a load of crud, or lots of water. If they do - they go bad instantly. BMW cars also have no change interval on the filters now.. and my experience with them is - over 100k miles easily as long as the fuel you fill up with is good.

There is nothing on the OBC that can take input from the GT1 that I can find with the GS-911... so I'd assume it means mark the service in the owners manual.

It's funny that on the R1150R the fuel filter needed changing at 24k miles and it was in the tank and requirred no less than the removal of 25 fasteners and the new bikes filter is external, is way easier to service, but doesn't require replacement until you have a serious performance problem or even a breakdown. ........Thanks for the info.
