Looking more likely...Biff's R wrote:For arguments sake.
LSU loses to Georgia in the SEC Champ game.
Missouri or KU lose to the other this week.
The winner of that game loses to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Champ game.
Viola, WVU and OSU
Likely, not, but a possibility. I hope the Buckeyes get to play in the Rose Bowl. It has been a while since they were there due to other BCS Champ games.
Although LSU jumped ahead with their loss to the Razorbacks. That's step one.
Either Kansas or Mizzo will go down tonight. It's a given for step 2.
So (baring a loss on their part) WVa is in.
That means if either KS or Mo stumble against the Okies....Biff becomes prognosticator of the year.
Of course I hope for KU vs WVa..... but I'm not betting on anything this year.

Don't underestimate WVU's ability to lose in November. See the 1954 game referred to in the other post....
And on a separate note: Best Conference debate.
I did some checking about the SEC claim to be the toughest conference. They really do have a large number of exciting teams that produce watchable games. But I prefer to think the Big 12 is the tougher conference.
And I think the PAC 10 and ACC are weak overall while the Big Ten and Big East are middle of the road. The WAC, The MAC, The Others are capable at the second tier.
Here is what I came up with informally, off the cuff, seat of the pants, one dimensional look, etc:
The SEC and the Big 12 teams schedule an average of 5 games (per team) against Top 25 teams. And they sport a 3-2 average record in those games.
The PAC 10 and Big East schedule an average 4 per team versus Top 25 and average a 2-2 record per team.
The Big Ten and ACC schedule an average 3 per team versus Top 25 and average 1-2 record per team.
This year, LSU and WVU were each 4-1 against the Top 25. Nobody else was close.

The Older I Get, The Less I Know.
My Iranian friend Reza once said, "I'll never understand how Americans can spend 4 hours watching a thirty minute game."
mac's proposed rule changes:
One field goal attempt per game by each team.
The play clock will start with 12 seconds.
But I have enjoyed watching college football over the past month or so.

I'll presume he finds soccer a better choice. You know, the game where, at the top levels a 2-1 final score represents a blizzard of offense.....machew01 wrote:My Iranian friend Reza once said, "I'll never understand how Americans can spend 4 hours watching a thirty minute game."

(Full disclosure, my son's on the local HS team - goalie. I watch his games at every chance, cheering and hooting...once he graduates..no thanks.)

It all comes down to how the pollsters see things. I look at a couple of games, and teams.MikeCam wrote: I did some checking about the SEC claim to be the toughest conference. Nebraska at one time this season was ranked, but they let another team score more than 60 points against them more than once. There is no way (barring 4+ overtimes) that a team should ever allow more than 50 points, and still be in the top 25.
Virginia Tech lost to LSU by more than 40 points. They have no business being in the top 10. I don't care if they played the New England Patriots, losing by more than 40 is not acceptable.
There were a lot of teams this year that had a big upset, and jumped way up in the polls until reality set in. See South Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, and Oregon. Although Oregon lost their most important player due to injury.

Yep, especially this year when the various team rankings were like watching a yo-yo competition. Remember South Florida??????Biff's R wrote:[It all comes down to how the pollsters see things.
Most of the polls are biased, subjective or based on very limited data. For example, the coaches poll should represent the best informed voters. Does anyone really think an active coach, preparring their team for next weeks opponent has the time to objectively view enough other teams well enough to make an informed call?
And, boy-oh-boy, PRE- season rnakings? It is to laugh.... but occasionally, as in the year Auburn was undefeated, but failed to make the BCS Championship, the early rankings can hurt or help.

Jim Tressel said that this week he believes that he was able to give his best assessment of the teams he voted for on his ballot in the Coaches poll, since throughout most of the season he is concentrating on OSU's opponent.JCsman wrote:Yep, especially this year when the various team rankings were like watching a yo-yo competition.
