Topcase Install begins

Post by wbrisett »

I'll post some pictures when I get done. Last night the UPS man dropped off the Hepco & Becker TC40 topcase for my wife's R1150R. I have to work today, but I should get around to installing it on Sunday. The bad news is I forgot to order the backrest for the trunk, so I'll have to do that.

...since posting the pictures will take longer than the installation, assuming you have the OEM side-case/back-rack mounts.

The H-B's a good piece of kit. I already have a few thousand heavy duty miles on mine. BTW, passengers give a big thumbs-up to the back rest.

You know, this IS going to be a bit tougher. We have the BMW side cases, but when I ordered the HB topcase, I ordered the SW-MOTECH adapter. Looks like I need a different adapter if I want to keep the side cases (which I do). What adapter are people buying for the HB topcase?

Good picture of the H-B mounting rack from ScooterCop plus all the manufacturer's model numbers you'll need to order the right one (it's 650.632.01.01 btw).

pardon the sl OT question, but, what will the 38 vs the 42 hold--will both hold 1 or 2 full face helmets? Is there a 50 liter version? do not see it on the twisted throttle website.

It looks like a much easier install than the comparable GIVI?

The Journey TC40 holds 1 full face helmet. I don't know about the TC50.

There is a TC50, and I can easily fit two medium Shoei 1000's in without squeezing anything. There's a little give in the plastic, so if one of your helmets is a tad bigger, I imagine they'd still fit.

If you have the standard BMW luggage mounts, the H-B install is a five-minute procedure to replace the BMW plastic rack with the H-B. Change four bolts. The very definition of easy.

Just to be clear...
are the ONLY two pieces I need to add an H_B case to my existing BMW rails

1) the mount--650.632.01.01

and

2) the case--either the 40 or 50?

There is no "plate" or locking mechanism between the mount and the case?

TIA

That is all you need. The rack will bolt in place of the BMW rack, the locking mechanism is built into (under) whichever topcase you choose.

Thanks, SC.

You have the 40 and BoiseBeemer has the 50--
BB says the 50 is not overpowering in size visually. Do you ever wish you had the larger size?

BTW the "beverly" 200 is a very nice scoot. I was very tempted to get one instead of the ET150--no regreats though.

No. the 40 lt. allows me to fit a jacket and helmet, or my entire Aerostich 2 piece. I don't think the extra 10 liters would allow my helmet to fit in there with the 'stich, or even to put my wife's helmet at the same time as mine. It holds just the right amount of stuff for me on my solo trips, ie: camera, regular shoes, rain gear, a couple of water bottles, and anything else I pick up along the road. Overall, it is a quality setup that I get a lot of use out of. It has not been off the bike since I got it.

YMMV.

I can say they take quite a lickin' from us at work.

Dear ScooterCop,

pls refer to my selfintroductory post for presentation.

I'm very impressed with your photo of the R1150R with Hepco & Becker rack and top case.

Since this item (back rest or top case) is very important to me (for my lovely wife), I wonder if your top case has also a back rest and if that leaves enough space for the passenger confort.

I would LOVE to see more photo, to understand what it loos like FROM SIDE, with and without top case.

Do you thing that could be possible?

Thank you anyway....

Dear ScooterCoop,

what a fast answer!

I'm delighted. Your picture are totally self explanatory.
Hepco&Becker should get it to advertise their products.

Congratulations for the happiness of your cute passenger (your wife?).

Grazie

Eurotech Motorsports is your best (maybe only) bet. Try this link: http://www.eurotechmotorsports.com/form ... %2000%2009

I wanted to buy a silver version on short notice, but EM didn't have one in stock, so they sent me a black one to use for the trip. When I got back they'd already shipped me the silver one with a RA and prepaid shipping to return the original. Very responsive to phone calls, so if you have any questions, just ask. Good guys, and they'll certain get any business I can throw them.
