I just rubbed off the garage dust so you could see better. This was not here in the morning. I have no idea how it happened, no pot-holes or anything. I have hated this tire. Do I finally have a good excuse to get at new one?
Please say yes.
This is a dunlop 207 front tire.

I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...
Most likely a defect in the tire that has finally come to show itself. I've seen a tire develop a bulge (similar to that) while it was sitting in the garage. I think it's a excellent idea to get new tires, too bad the new Pilot Road 2's aren't out yet. O_o
What you are experiencing are broken/separated belts......the construction of the tire has several layers of juxtapositioned belts on the tire carcas. In essence some of these belts have broken. This can be a defect, but since the tire shows significant use I would have to rule the defect out.
Another potential cause is that sometime during the life of the tire you could have hit a pothole or a curb exceptionally hard so that it weakened some of the belts. The continious flexing of the tire during operation along with heat took care of the rest until the failure became evident.
Errrr....time for a new tire..........

I would contact the manufacturer and ask for a new tire. I had a situation with a different tire manufacturer who offered a new front when I purchased a new rear. Motorcycle tire manufacturers don;t want bad press...Dunlop will likely help you in some way.
iowabeakster , The tire does not look very old. I have the same now, and not bad for 7k miles, but I am replacing them this Saturday. I will not buy Dunlop's , that is for sure. I am going to try Diablo Stradas. We shall see.

It'll probably be metzeler, cause that way, I will have time to ride.
(very close dealer, in-stock metzeler)
I won't push dunlop for another. It was stock, I got 10K out of it. Time to try something esle!
For the benefit of fellow motorcycle riders who have Dunlop tires fitted, you may wish to notify Dunlop of the failure and ply separation. This is a dangerous condition and tire manufacturers take tire safety seriously. Tires and brakes...the two most important items on your car or motorcycle...and often, the two most overlooked.

It's probably off the wheel already, at dealer. I Will pick up tomorrow, hopefully I don't sleep in too late and can still have time to ride in the afternoon.
Do you think I should just email my original posting?

I'm not like that. I (edit--have already) let them know.

Dunlop may want the tire or data off the sidewall to determine which mold or assembly line it came from. At this point, it may be too late if the dealer has it. I would email Dunlop including your photo and notify them of your failure and see how they respond. Let us know.
I emailed Dunlop, with picture to show the internal failure. I stated that it had 10K miles, and I had no complaint nor was I seeking replacement. It was simply a FYI for safety reasons.
They did email me back, not a form letter, as they aknowledged the picture. They told me to take it a dealer to see about a warranty claim.
Tire was swapped out with a Z6.
