Agree with telliot on the Z6's. I like them in all respects save one. Weird squirrley feel on road irregularities or any water across the path. Great tires for mileage..I've gotten 11 and 12K out of mine, beginning with Z4's and later Z6's. But don't feel confident when in a turn and the back tire j...

That's great to hear about your return to riding being so rewarding, Max C. And I'm particularly pleased by your reference to riding as like flying "an open air biplane". Since I and others, no doubt, had made a similar realization along the way, I had dubbed my book project's title: "...

Thanks, Leo. That means alot. I'm shooting both candid and a little more art-directed shots of the bike for the book. Everyone has been great in their posts and comments. This is a great forum.

The insights and reminisces have been so encouraging to read. Everyone seems to enjoy taking a moment to think about the "big" issues in life----why we ride and what the heck inspired us to consider this delightful sport, hobby, or whatever in the first place. :) I was riding in a cage yes...

Re: 3 questions

KMACR - You have three very different threads running here. 1. How did we get into motorcycling? 2. What is our philosophy for touring? and (the new one) 3. Why do we ride? I could write my own book on all that! Hey MIXR, Only three? I must be slacking off. Seriously, it's been interesting to hear ...

Hey DJ, thanks. The music is really first rate and because of the Long Way Round documentary soundtrack connection it just seems like the natural backdrop to BMW riding. I've bought several and have sent them to friends all who have been amazed that this was out there and they weren't aware of it.Th...

Hearing some really great insight to this wonderful sport/hobby/lifestyle. I appreciate it all and am anxious to hear even more. Each post seems to take us to a new level of reflection, appreciation, or understanding. Re-entering riding as I did almost 25 years since my last (and first) bike was qui...

The responses are great. Everyone seems to be taking a moment to reflect and put into words how they really feel about motorcycling. It's really fantastic. My driving force came down to realizing that in my business life I traveled all over this country, yet saw so little of it. Like alot of busines...

So what is it everyone "gets" out of riding motorcycles? Especially for baby boomers, it seems the reaction from parts of society think "we should know better" at our age to be involved with something as "dangerous" as motorcycles. Our just-as-cool younger counterparts ...

Great review and IMHO great gear. I've been a fan of REV-IT for some time as the REV-IT folks seem to really "get it". Sizing is something I think a person needs to get up close and personal with if at all possible. Not just with REV-IT but with all brands. Seems to me that one person's Me...

You can really tell how much motorcycling means to riders in these posts. After not riding for almost a quarter century (yikes), when the opportunity arose, I decided to start again and at the time felt it was an unusual approach to reclaiming mis-placed priorities I had all those years. But I was s...

Hi everyone... Thanks for the replies so far. Have received some nice PM's as well. One thing that really brought me back to riding---after 24 years--was just the sense of freedom and the idea that I didn't have to have a destination to ride. Often I wind up somewhere I would have never thought to g...

BMW Good Cheer

I've been researching for awhile in regard to a BMW motorcycle-oriented book and through that have become quite good friends with Mark Nilsson of a London-based band called 50Hz (fifty hertz). Those not familiar with the name may be acquainted with some of the band's songs as used as backing tracks ...

BMW's & Baby Boomers

Most of us have been inspired at some precise point in our lives to ride motorcycles and in particular, BMW's. Perhaps it was by someone we knew, or something we read, or saw. It may have been ingrained in the family genes or for others, was an acquired trait. You might have had already made the dec...

Well...a tried and true baby boomer here. Have seen 50 summers but heck, have just recently figured out what I want to be when I grow up---a traveler, an explorer, a writer, a photographer, a rider. All of which can be done with the able accomplice of my R1150R. Doesn't get much better..... :D

Re: Touratech Cases

I'm planning my 2 month ride round europe in the summer, and as a result, I've spent far too much time reading the Touratech catologue! I'd love to stick some of their Zega panniers on my bike, but I'm not sure if or how they'll fit on my R1150R. Anyone know? Check out this link. It's exactly what ...

Good info....learning everything I wanted to know about BMW system cases. Once again, the beauty of this forum. John, what is it with the right side case syndrome? I figured if I was able to find the lost bag it would be pretty trashed but I hoped that like in your case the base might be salvageable...
