Prescription: Ride 1 R several times daily

As a physical therapist and someone with a bad back myself, I would vote for keeping the R, or at least getting something with a similar riding position. The uprightness that the seating position allows is better than the cruiser positions. In fact, I feel better sitting on my R than anywhere else. ...

45mpg!! The BEST I've gotten was about 42 and that was with mostly highway riding. Most of my riding is in the city, and I usually get around 35 or so. Light comes on at about 120-130. Could this deficit be due to my Staintune exhaust? I talked to someone lately who said he is putting 89 oct...

Nice Bike!!

I have a friend whose wedding party was kicked out of the Cuyahoga Valley National Reserve Park for taking their wedding pics there without a permit. Seems they should post any restrictions like that, though. Great story and great pics. I really like your windscreen and chrome mirrors with the silve...

Re: ear plugs

But I did notice I ride better with them in. With the engine muffled, I ride at higher RPMs and the bike handles better! I noticed the same thing!! I got a package of 50 pairs of the foam plugs off e-bay for $8 and they work great. Muffle the wind noise but still allow me to hear traffic aro...

Wheww!!

Just wanted to thank all who posted for your helpful insights and suggestions. I ended up getting a battery tender, and after charging overnight and showing full charge, the R started to turn over before going back to the rapid clicking sound. SO I got a new battery - a maintenance-free from West Co...

Yes, sorry. When I turn the ignition switch to on, and after it finishes whirring, I hit the ignition button and there is a loud rapid clicking sound, while the light dims considerably. Originally, I apparently did not give the fuel pump enough time to finish whirring before I hit the igniton button...

Please help!! Starter issues! MAYDAY!!

I looked through some of the old posts for starter problems, and what I saw seemed to deal mostly with low batteries. My problem: I took my '02 R for a 50+ mile ride today without incident, and parked in the driveway when I got home. This was not my first ride of the year, as I have been riding thro...

I have seen thermal face masks in the JC Whitney catalog for $5, $10, and $15. Can't say how effective they are, but sound like some of the other things mentioned here. I have a Tourmaster Cortech one piece suit that I wore in 28 degree weather last Friday and was plenty warm, other than my hands. I...

Tofurkey

I've been a vegetarian for about 13 yrs and have indulged in the tofurkey for the past 4 or 5. The tofurkey loaf, itself, is not so bad, but I'm not a big fan of the stuffing they put in it. Reminds me too much of the nondescript mush found in many school and hospital cafeterias. They did awa...

My '02 R had 6000 miles when I bought it and had had the 6k mile service done on it. I also do mostly city driving, and was finding myself getting in the low to mid 30's for gas mileage, and was concerned. But the last tank was from more consistent riding, and I noted mileage in the upper 30's. I th...

Handguards

I went into my local dealership in Aurora, OH and asked about using the GS handguards and the salesmen and mechanic all looked at me like I was nuts. Granted, I am a little nuts, but I was only going by what I had read on this site. The tech guy said he had never heard of doing that, and didn't thin...

GO BUCKS!!! :D :D :D If there's a better rivalry in college sports than OSU vs Michigan, I'd like to see it. And if you think we don't take our football seriously up north, then you have obviously never spent a day at Heineygate, before and after the game, with the rest of the city of Columbus, wher...

Congrats on getting her signed up. I took the course here in Ohio this Spring, and it was a bear to get into. I whole-heartedly second the notion of having your wife become very familiar with the controls, choke, finding neutral, turning off the fuel knob, etc. The instructors that I had went out of...

Thanks for the info, Sarah- Now I've found yet another site to spend all my time in front of (when I'm not on the R) instead of doing other things, like eating, laundry, sleeping. I am currently following an auction on e-bay, but will keep these in mind as well. Anyone have any preference on hard ve...

Ride on, Renegade! I'm with you. My only real beef with Harley riders is for those that are unaccepting of other bikes, of which it seems many are. I am looking forward to some day trying my hand at a Sportster, but probably not 'till I heal my bank account's wounds from my recent purchase of the R,...

Hey there, all. Thought I'd post my drop experience here, although I mentioned it on another thread a little bit ago. I picked up my used '02 Black R last Friday, drove the 40 or so miles home, and after parking it in the driveway, decided to go fill up the tank before heading out to my folk's place...

Tipstall, Congrats on the purchase. I just picked up my used '02 R (black) last Friday and have put 250 miles on it. I've been riding street for a couple years now, never have been on dirt, and stand a mere 5'6", 160 lbs. I find the bike is easier to handle than my Kaw vulcan 500! I quickly lea...

I get in this argument pretty often at work, not necessarily about bikes, but so-called "foreign" autos. My usual retort is that several models of "domestic" cars are manufactured in Canada or Mexico, while Hondas are manufactured in my home state of Ohio. Also, many of the parts...
