My idea!

The idea is that we have a machine, that is reliable within good reason, to carry our asses screamin down the road. If I have it in the back of my mind that I could have a meeting with a tow truck when im out in the boonies, then im not a happy rider. None of the other makes I have had have been as ...

So???

I have an 04 r1150r. It looks like the end result is that all 04 1150r bikes could cost a guy 2000 bucks down the road. Just how many people have had this problem, and is it time to go back to, YUCK! Harley Davidson.

Actually my wife is a shapely 135, and the bike performs well except starting up hill. If I do not slip the clutch then it pings and stalls out. The first gear is just not low enough. Oh well so it goes! Ride safe all, and be well. Mike.

Thanks for the reply. My wife will probably avoid the bike in the future as she is not as enthused as I am. Im 60 and have been on and off bikes since 17. Thanks again for the reply. Mike. Kent WA.

low end torque

My 1150 seems to not have enough balls to take me and the wife up a hill from a dead stop without feathering the clutch jacken up the rpm. and burning the clutch a little. the bike is tuned and everything is adjusted proper. Any Ideas other then a different bike, or a littler wife?

Two up.

In spite of everyone elses opinion, I feel the 1150 does not have enough low end torque for two up riding. When the wife and I come to a stop and then start up again on a hill I have to get the revs up to keep from stalling, and feather the clutch. This makes that lovely smell as the clutch burns, a...

ping

Heres the Truth! BMW bikes carbon up. Thats why they ping! The simple cure is SEA-FOAM. Its a product that cleanes away carbon on valves and pistons. My ping was from to much build up on the pistons which makes the combustion chamber smaller. I looked at the pistons, saw the carbon was actually crat...

dry it

to stop the leak all you have to do is dry the seal area in the in the oil fill hole, and dry the cap and o-ring. if the ring is bad then replace it. Its just like any other gasket that gets compromised with oil....... it leaks.

Yes I do. The leak is at the pivot pin nut on the right side above the cylinder behind the black cap.

I would think you would not ride two up with your size in mind. The other issue is your joint tollerence from the leg position. Just my opinion, but I think a good size cruiser is in your future. Or perhaps an RT would be better then the R. You might be able to do more for size accomadations.

Two to three thou is a good area to be in. Every thing I have read about oil says it starts to break down at 2000 miles. Another guide is change it when its to dirty. If all you see is dark murkey brown and no amber then dump it. Mike.

I agree. A wonderful area to ride in. I wish I could afford to live there! Coming from LA, and living in Wa. since 1973 my way of living has changed, and California is bueatiful but not a place to move to. Oh well I will just have to suffer with the hum drum scenery around Mt Ranier and the cascades.

There are some real people in the Bay Area, but not to many of them. North of there would be better country for a ride, and you would not have to turn left so often.

The couple of drops would not show up as a drip. As the other guy said, try retightening the filter, or do the job over again. I know from my own experience that you could loose almost all the oil before you know whats happening. Did it in a dodge pickup. Lucked out though, no damage. Peace of mind ...
