Re: Mounting BikeVis Bullet V2 lights on my R1150R

Those lights looks amazing. What was the expense? Total expense was $50-60. The lights were about $33 shipped, and I spent another $20 or so on wire and connectors. I have leftover wire and connectors, so the next project won't require buying those parts. They're not as bright as I'd like, but consi...

Mounting BikeVis Bullet V2 lights on my R1150R

Based on the review at WebBikeWorld , I bought some BikeVis Bullet V2 marker lights to add a bit more visibility to my R1150R. Even ordering from the UK (I'm in the US), the lights weren't too expensive, and took about 1.5 weeks to arrive by regular post. They are little sealed plastic LED lights, w...

Re: Going to Colorado, any advice on roads?

I'm sorry I wasn't here a few weeks earlier on this thread. I'll put my recommendation for next time. If you're going to do Mt. Evans, go the "back" way through Evergreen, instead of I-70 to Idaho Springs. Take Bear Creek Road (Colorado Road 74) and Upper Bear Creak Road (Colorado Road 74/...

Re: Riding shoes. Boots. Whatever

I wear these Red Wing boots . They're marketed as motorcycle boots, have worn well over 5 years, are comfortable enough to wear all day, were cheap compared to other motorcycle boots, and appear to be just black hiking or work boots. Hiking or work boots might not be acceptable in all places of work...

Re: Several options for adding lights at the back

I was all set to get the Kisan Signalminder, and run with red turn signal/running lights in the rear. Then this report (PDF) from the NHTSA came out (summarized at webBikeWorld ) which says that amber turn signals may be 20% better than red turn signals at preventing rear end collisions. Using the s...

Re: Several options for adding lights at the back

I'm very interested to see how those turn out once you have a light behind the red paint, keep us informed when you get them mounted (or attached to 12v power source...) If it works out I'd probably go this route. Here you go. I'm very happy with the results! (I know, the camera makes the lights ap...

Re: Several options for adding lights at the back

Can i ask why you feel the need to fit more lights at the rear? is it a big problem in the 'States being rear ended or such like ?? i have some neat led boards mounted inside the BMW clear lenses .... these are more bling than for a specific purpose. Look neat though :D The answer is pretty much, &...

Re: Several options for adding lights at the back

The signals in the photo's are not BMW. I couldn't find red lenses for my BMW signals :( Since finishing this project, I read about how to turn amber lenses into red ones. Yesterday I sprayed my amber BMW lenses with Testors Model Paint, Candy Apple Red. The paint is dry today and they look fantast...

Is that with the Kisan signalminder? I think that is the effect I'd like.

Re: Several options for adding lights at the back

I have the BMW LED aux taillight on mine. Similarly doesn't affect the computer*. It's low-mounted, so probably not ideal. I also have a kissan signal minder that I run the signals as running lights with. I believe that orange lights on the rear of the bike are illegal in some states (including min...

Several options for adding lights at the back

I'm considering several options to add some additional lighting to the rear of my R1150R. Currently I only have the stock tail/brake light, and that hides under a top box. Below is a picture of what I'm starting with (without the top box). P3 Lights Bright modulated tail light LEDs, with flashing br...

Re: Demo a Harley get an iPod

What about the iPods?! mac Yeah, 6-8 weeks, while supplies last, offer void if you wear a helmet, etc. My brother bought a touch a few weeks ago, so he gave me his old Sansa e280. Maybe he'll get a second iPod in a month or two. I joke, but they're offering an 8GB nano, which is around $150, so if ...

Demo a Harley get an iPod

Last week my brother got a postcard in the mail saying that if he demoed a Harley they would send him an iPod. This last Saturday the high was around 55 (as I write this it's -2 outside), so we took the opportunity, and headed over to the neighborhood Harley dealership. The place was pretty full of ...

Re: Surging or balance issue? Rough ride at 3-4k

Toolinalong kindly loaned me his twinmax and sent me the great Throttle Body Syncing for Dummies file. I went ahead and had the valves adjusted at a shop. After the adjustment the engine is much quieter, and the shop owner said that the valves were a bit loose. This weekend I attached the twinmax to...

Re: 2004 r1150r topcase and backrest, owners manual

Thanks for the info and pictures provided ! JML, your JC Whitney quick release bracket mounts on the BMW mounting bracket (which has to be ordered) adapted with larger bracket/washers due to the misalignment of the holes. You mentioned a metal plate also, is this something custom made? Nice picture...

Re: 2004 r1150r topcase and backrest, owners manual

Hi All ! Just got a 2004 R1150RA with side cases and a rear BMW rack/plate. I would like to add a backrest for my passenger and would like to get some advices. Should I get a Givi topcase with backrest? A bit pricey. Do I need any mounting hardware given that I have the sidecases already? Any after...

Last of the season mountain run? Highway 103 in Colorado

I did what will be one of the last mountain ride of the season this weekend. It was about a 103 mile loop with the highlights being Highway 103 (Squaw Pass Road) and Highway 46 (Golden Gate Canyon Road). Here is a google map of the route. http://gallery.lessem.org/d/26347-2/dscf2187.jpg Five of us m...

Re: Surging or balance issue? Rough ride at 3-4k

Hi JML, So I'm guessing that was you I passed on the red bike in Boulder Canyon a couple of days ago. Unfortunately that wasn't me. I like the red color, too, but the bike I found was silver, so that is what I have. I'm the silver R1150R with either a top box or system cases, depending on how much ...

Re: Surging or balance issue? Rough ride at 3-4k

BMW's do not and have never surged. Ask anyone at the factory....Ok now that you've stopped laughing, the problem described sounds like something other than the usual surging, which is typically in the lower gears at light throttle opening, and 3500 rpm or less. Shouldn't do it at speed in a higher...

Re: Surging or balance issue? Rough ride at 3-4k

OK, so that is surging. I didn't want to call it "surging" if it was really "tire out of balance." I think I'll go talk to the shop and if they say, "Oh yeah, a surging R, we know about that and can fix it." I'll probably let them take a shot at it. If they say their ha...
