Re: Headlight lens
I had to replace the lens of my '02 R1150R as well. I still have the receipt and it shows as a part #63121358147. A new gasket came w/ mine, so maybe you're trying to fit it w/ the old gasket in place??

Didn't Know
Didn't know any board posters were there--I would have hooked up. I was there on my '02 Blue 1150R and made the deal of the century-- two perfect condition city lids w/ reflector and roundel (one side) and case dividers (two) for $70 out the door. The cheapest deal I have found on the web is City li...

Wind Buffeting Solution
Maybe look into either a taller aftermarket windscreen for your RT or install a laminar lip (you can google that). I have the BMW touring screen on my 1150R and it was incredibly loud until I got a laminar lip (I'm only 6'1" though).

Use Higher watt H 4s
I've run an aftermarket H4 130w/90w since I bought my bike new in '02. I haven't had any problems (melted wires, headshell, etc) and I do check my wires about twice a season since some think the extra current draw is too much for the stock wiring. You get great light from these higher wattage bulbs ...

Passing rules
Wow. Looking at the car, it appears the rider could have been hurt a lot worse. Here's to a speedy recovery and a quick return to riding. Makes me remember a very old lesson I learned--I never pass anyone on the left where they can make a left turn. Country roads, I time all my passes to be in a spo...

I wouldn't buy
I had a pair of the nightcutter with those mounts. One important thing to be aware of--the base of the light housing is a ball and socket affair. Those screws you see in the picture hold two halves of the socket together. They screw into PLASTIC on the other side of socket. I found no way to get the...

Dropped mine Too
I did the exact same thing the first time I did a valve adjust. Called my dealer, he tole me not to worry. It drops into a "dry area" so no possibility of blocking any oil passages and if anything, it would just get ground up by the gear wheel.

LED Lights for Detector
I've seen a lot of post about people not liking to wear earphones or a helmet speaker so they can hear their detector. I just purchased an LED add-on for my Escort 8500 from Aerostitch. Pricey at $60 but man can you see those lights go off! A nic option for those that don't want to be wired in.

Battery Tender Testimonial
I've always believed in my battery tender and have used it regularly--but now i know they work. When I bought my '02 R1150R in Nov '02, I promptly parked my previous ride (an '82 KZ1000 LTD) and haven't ridden it since. Today, I finally went into the garage to ressurect it as I may be purchasing a s...

Euroswitch hard to use
I have one on my '02 R1150R and don't much care for it. The switch itself is very small, tight abd well in-board pf the handgrip, so it is very difficult to manipulate. I'd pass if i were you and get an aftermarket accessory switch you can mount anywhere. The switch I got w/ my PIAAs by contrast is ...

PIAA Light Mounts
Here's some pics where I mounted mine. I just made a very simple u-shaped bracket oot of flat stock and mounted them to the brackets for the touring windscreen, which I believe are the same brackets for the small screen. The close-up picture is kind of fuzzy, but hopefully you can make it out. My PI...

Rain Riding Book
I got it for Xmas. It does contain useful info, but it is very thin and in my opinion doesn't share anything new that you wouldn't find in a more comprehensive riding technique book. Most of what's presented is common sense and I thought for what it contained (barely more than a pamphlet), it was wa...

Are They the Same?
I often wonder whether gas is all the same or not. Here's some fairly technical info on all things gasoline, although I don't know what the ultimate source of this info is. Go to part 2, 4.12, "Are brands different?". This author believes so: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/autos/gasoline-faq/par...

Which Brand Gas to Buy
In a recent issue of one of the bike mags (Roadbike, I think), they referenced a standard some of the bike manufacturers (BMW included)are using to recommend whose fuel to buy. The gist of the issue is that many gasoline companies are either not complying w/ the EPA requirements for certain minimum ...

Rear Drive Seal Failure
It's been posted before, but a reminder never hurts: While washing my '02 R1150R about three weeks ago, I noticed what seemed like an excessive build up of crud right under the rear dust boot (where the final drive mates to the swing arm housing). Didn't seem like normal road grime, so I decided to ...

Here's a picture of the BMW top case base plate mounted on the Givi brackets (picture is from the ground looking up). Bar Snake
I have the KRS mirrors and am planning to get a bar snake. Their website states that if you have internal dimples or internal wiring in the bar, you have to use the liquid version. I believe we have dimples, but not sure about wires. I've never had my grips off. If no internal wires, I'm going for t...
