Re: Rok Straps on BMW System Side Cases
Marcin, The Rok Straps in the link provided by Patch are indeed the ones I used. They are the 54"x1" model. As noted in the OP, it makes it easier to slide the end into the slot on the bracket if you remove the fold in the nylon webbing part of the loop. To do this, you just cut the short ...

Rok Straps on BMW System Side Cases
This post describes a set of brackets that can mount on BMW system cases that enable the use of Rok Straps (or other nylon straps) for attaching a dry bag or other gear to the top surface of the BMW system side cases. With the brackets installed, the Rok Straps can secure gear as shown in the follow...

Re: Factory Touring Windshield on Facelift Roadsters
Bruce, Here is a photo comparison of the OEM tall windshield on the stock bracket (top; from 2013 motorrad catalog) and (bottom) with the tilt described in the "Tilting Windsield on 2011 - R12R" post. Like others, I was ready to remove the windshield permanently because of the turbulence w...

Re: Tilting Windshield on 2011- R12R
Don E, In answer to your question about making the mount simpler by bending the original front mount on the OEM bracket, yes, I think there are possibilities to that approach. The front mount has a curved cross section, so it would need to be flattened in a vise before bending. Also, it might requir...

Re: Tilting Windshield on 2011- R12R
Here are the mechanical drawings. Dimensions are in millimeters with the equivalent in inches in the subsequent parentheses. For the lower bracket that extends out to the front of the headlight, first make the following piece using 1/8" thick extruded aluminum angle stock, which is used because...

Re: Tilting Windshield on 2011- R12R
Bruce, In answer to your first question, yes it worked out as I planned, in the sense that I was able to mount the windshield at the angle that I found through direct testing (as explained in my post) to minimize turbulence when riding in the 0-65mph range. My height is 5'10" and, with the stan...

Tilting Windshield on 2011- R12R
This post is to illustrate one method for tilting the BMW touring windshield on the 2011 and newer R12R. As has been noted in earlier posts, the design for how the bracket is mounted changed with the cam head model and the DonC tilt block useful for the earlier R12Rs does not work on the newer desig...

LED sidelights
This post is to illustrate installation of LED sidelights on an R12R to increase visibility. I also would like to know if they would NOT be legal in any parts of North America, as I have been unable to find a definitive answer on the web. The lights I installed are 6 element LEDs and I mounted them ...

Re: fuseblock trigger wire woes
Patch,
On a 2012 R12R, I used a red positap (20-22 gauge, with a single black cap) on the diagnostic plug power wire. The connection worked for powering a fuse panel relay (Eastern Beaver) with the first insertion, and it has worked without problems for the last year.

Re: R12R Classic Tubeless Tire Conversion
SF_Hooligan My suggestion would be to be extra careful with putting a band over the Outex sealing strip. The purpose of the cyanoacrylate (CA) glue around the nuts was only to provide a solid foundation so that the Outex sealing strip (or a silicone chemical sealer in Woody’s process) doesn’t force ...

Re: R12R Classic Tubeless Tire Conversion
It took a weekend to do EACH wheel. I think it would be too much for you to do both wheels in one weekend. The slowest part is the smoothing and filling-in of the nuts. That can take 4-6 hours for one rim, depending on how anal you are. (FYI, I am not sure that the glue filling is really necessary w...

R12R Classic Tubeless Tire Conversion
This post describes my experiences sealing the spoked rims on an R1200R Classic so that tubeless tires can be used without the innertube that is standard on the stock bike. The conversion I performed is based on the Japanese “Outex kit” (Kit FR355, purchased on ebay, arrives in about a week) with so...

Re: Mounting aux lights using LumaLink brackets
Here is some info if someone else wants to order a similar Lumalink bracket for a camhead model: On a 2012 R1200R Classic, the diameter of the fork slider at the very bottom of the upper section (near the fork brace) is 54.90mm; the diameter 100mm further up the tube is 52.35mm; those two dimensions...

Re: Mounting aux lights using LumaLink brackets
I recently (a week ago) received Luma Link brackets for a 2012 R1200R. Because the forks are different on the 2011-2012 camhead, I had several back and forth emails with Brian Gordy to specify the diameter and taper of the fork slider, which is round in cross section compared to the earlier oval cro...
