Hello!
Just got a (slightly used, but in great nick) 2005 R1150R, which I plan to drive across Canada.
Everything is peachy, but a question about gas mileage:
When I fill, I reset the trip, and am finding around 225K before the gas light indicator comes on for the first time. This is mixed driving, with a lot of city traffic.
I would have thought that I should be getting higher klicks?
And anyone have a good estimate on what's on reserve when the light turns on?
Any help/suggestions/comments appreciated.
Cheers,
parki...

Hi there parki...welcome aboard and congrats on the bike..it was a wise choice..
.
I get about the same around town but it improves heaps when on the open road...You should be able to get at least 300 kilometers before running out.
You are best to look for fuel and top it up once the yellow light comes on..You don't want to be running out..it's not good for the fuel injection.
They are a bit thirsty in stop start city traffic.

Ditto - I run an easy 270 kms before the light, and can stretch it to 300 with a very careful 'trickle' fill. The extra half litre or so in the tank that enables 300 before the light comes from 'spinning' the fuel into the neck in a clockwise direction. Works better than the other way around for some obscure reason.
After the light, I can stretch it to another 80 or 90 kms, but usually play it safe and only run about 50 max. I usually plan a 'safe' range of 330 kms on my trips, but it makes a hell of a difference if you factor speed into the equation.
We did a lightly loaded run from Katherine to Darwin last year, where the distance was 300 kms, but there are no speed limits and long straight roads. About half way (less than hour's riding) we decided to stop for breakfast and fill the tanks for the run to Darwin and back to the fuel station. I put in something around 14 litres (need to check my log book to be sure), after only 150 kms distance! We were sitting on speeds well up over 160 kph though, so these things can get very thirsty. Almost doubled my usual 'cruising' fuel consumption. Makes for exciting riding!
I've also run out twice, just as I pulled into a service station. Both times it barely took 19.5 litres, but I could have carefully pushed it to 20 litres I suppose.
If I fill as soon as the light comes on, it usually takes 16 litres, giving me a 4 litre 'reserve'. I know there is a lot of variation in when the light comes on as this has been discussed many times on the Board. My experience is based on my bike, and 92,000 kms of filling it up!

hi Parky
i usualy get 16 km out of a liter, driving 5000 rpm (140km/h) on high-ways and sporty trough town (under 4000 rpm) not to bother the locals
by the way 80% high-way.
i'm using 98 (european octane) with gives a better milage than 95
in germany the have even 100
my fuel light turns on at about 230 km giving me 6 liter reserve.
funny thing though, at 200 km when i start my baby the fuel light comes on and goes out after a few hunderd meters of driving.
have a wunderfull trip

Same as above posts...
Normally between 275 and as high as 300 km before the light goes on.
I rode across Canada, 2-up, and was getting excellent mileage. Light came on same as my combined city/hwy daily riding...275-300 Km before the light came on.
