Mow much does a replaced speedo affect my bike's value?

Post by Rick Lee »

My '04 R1150R is in mint condition with some nice mods - Hepco-Becker crash bars, GS grip guards, 3M reflective tape on the system cases, higher wattage bulbs all around, relays, signal minder, magnetic oil drain plug, Givi windshield (that's all I can think of now). The previous owner dropped it a year or so ago and had everything that was scratched replaced by the dealer - tank, speedometer, etc. I have records for everything, all maint., and the speedo was replaced at 6563 miles. New speedo is at 9521 miles now, so the bike has 16,084 miles as of today. I keep a meticulous log book of everything I touch on all my vehicles, when I add any oil, date, mileage, when I replace a tire, whatever. On previous car sales, this has really helped me get my asking price.

Anyway, I really want a 1200GS now and am wondering if my bike is worth what other R1150R's are going for with similar mileage. I feel like I got a steal on this bike and could sell it for more. Of course, that would make the GS buy a lot easier to justify in my mind. Anyway, please let me know what you think about replaced speedos affecting value. Thanks.

With proper documentation I can't see how there would be a problem.
