So I test drove a 1200 today, and I feel like I will be trading in my 1150 soon for the 1200.
I love this bike.

I'm doing a trade in and want to throw some numbers out and see what other peoples experience has been.

Purchase:

07' R1220R Cristal Grey ( must have, dealer trying to locate one now)
ABS
heated grips
centerstand
computer
sport shield

He came down from $15,??? to a sales price of $14,200

Trade in:

05' R1150 Granite grey
16,000 miles
never dropped, mint
heated grips
tail rack
centerstand
new tires
$6500 offer

with the system cases, touring windshield, throttlemeister, corbin seat front only

$7000 offer

What do you think?

Joe , The 1200 you are wanting sounds like my bike. You will love it. I'm not sure about the trade in value on the other bike.

Your 'sale' price is about $400 less than mine (same options). When you live close to a big city ( I pay NYC prices) it's hard to get a real good deal.
The trade in does seem a little low. I wonder what the Blue Book is?

This is a Chicago area dealer, the way he explained it to me was BMW currently has incentives for the R1220R until March 31st. $600 if they sell 1 bike $800 for everyone after that. This dealer is passing this discount on to me. They have already sold one 1200R this month, so I'm lucky I guess.
As for the trade-in, judging from the ebay sales of similar bikes it seems fair.
I'll have a look at the BB value though.

* edit

They also offered 20% off of any accessories.

Greetings everyone,
If you're talking about Chicago BMW on Western Ave., I bought a R1200R from them last Saturday. I traded in my 05 12GS for it. When I test rode it on Thursday, I knew within a few blocks that it was a better bike for me. The balance, handling, power, and lower center of gravity sold me on it. I bought the 12GS from them 18 mo's ago. My dealings both times were with Mike Abt. Very pleasant guy to work with!

Welcome to the forum Jerry, and congrats on your new bike!
I bought my R1150R from Mike, he's great to work with.

I don't know if you are aware of the local BMW club, here's the link:
Monday night meets, some tech sessions, group rides, and all around good guys.

I think you are better off selling the R1150R without all the extras. You can get better than $500 on ebay for all the goodies.

+1 on that ScooterCop

I'd think the Corbin seat front & system cases would easily bring $500 on Ebay & the dealer most likely would not lower his offer.

Sounds like a real world decent deal to me. Along time ago I saw some dealer pricing sheets on a BMW bike or 2, IIRC BMW was only giving the dealers 12 some percent on the bikes & options. Not alot of manuever room. Interesting about the $6/$8 hundred off, any deals right now on GSA's?

I can't confirm any other deals, but he pulled out a sheet with at least 5 model's current incentives until march 31st. I did see the sheet, but didn't memorize it.
It seems that if there was 2 or more people there could be a group R1200R buy!........anyone else planning on buying in the next few weeks?

The problem is the dealer only has 1 more 1200R, a black with pin stripes, and they don't even know when they have more coming. Ordering is also not an option for me. Don't want to wait 12+ weeks really.
I asked them to look for a Cristal Grey bike for me from another dealer, but I'm not sure how that works for BMW Motorrad. With BMW NA, dealers can make a trade for inventory they have. Buying the one they have and having it painted was discussed, but will be a last option.

I agree that I can do better on eBay or IBMWR with the add-ons for the trade

Thanks for the welcome, Joe. Actually I have been a member of the Chicago region group for a year and a half. I went to about half the hotdog rides last year on my GS. You're right, they are a good bunch of riders in the group. I'll keep an eye out for RR bikes now.

I also sold my previous bike to help fund the R1200R upgrade.
Although I had a 2000 R1100RT with 35,000 miles on it.
I didn't like the dealer's trade in value so I put it on Craig's list. I had 3 inquiries within hours and the bike sold by the end of the week for $2,000 more than what the dealer wanted to offer me.

While it was my first time selling a bike online, it seemed to me I only got serious inquiries as not every tom, dingle and harry want to come and look at BMW's. You either want one or you don't.

I would recommend the process, it was a breeze.

Good news, the dealer called to tell me they found a Cristal Grey 1200R for me! He could only confirm that it did have ABS, but couldn't confirm any other options. Heated grips and center stand are a must, I can do without the rest. I'll be trading in soon......
I've looked into it and because I'm on tour right now, and will only be home for a few days until May, I'm going to trade in my R11150R to the dealer. I might be able to get more $ on my own, but it would be very difficult to sell it myself from the road. The farkles are another story, I think I'll be stripping it down and selling them separate when I have time.
Cristal Grey 1200R here I come!

I will be in Chicago area on April 21-23 for a Rugby playoff. I would be very interested in the cases, mounting bracket and seat as a package. Send me a PM if this timing works for you. :)

Ahhh choices......

I just had a talk with my salesman, and it appears they can not find me a Crystal Grey 1200R. If I want one I'll have to order it, and that just doesn't work for my timeline in life.
They have a black with stripes bike on the floor, and I suggested that if he can discount that one he has enough, I'll take it and have it painted the color I want.
He agreed to take $1100 off the sticker, and up my trade in to $7250 with the extra's for my 1150R.
It seems a little extreme, but I'm hoping to have my 1200R look like the white Wudo bike with a fairing anyway, so why not just paint a brand new black bike white....?

Sounds like your dealer is being reasonable. Sooooooo......? Did ya get it done?

YEAH!

It is done.
Monday I'll be picking up my new R1200R, black with pin stripes. :D
The black is growing on me already...
Maybe when I get a fairing I'll have the whole thing painted.
I feel that the deal is good and fair,
Plus BMW is offering a $500 credit towards riding gear or motorcycle accessories when you buy a bike before April 28th. I've added on a touring screen, side bags, and tail rack to the order.
$1100 off of sticker, a fair trade in, and $500 more off of extra's, where do I sign!
The weather is supposed to be in the 50's - 60's and sunny next week, so I should be able to get the first 600 miles done quickly.
:D

R1200R here I come!
