R12R on order from Berlin - any other custom orderers?

I ordered my R12R in January. I took the K12R out for a ride and then the R12R. There was no comparison for what I wanted in a ride. The R12R was for me. It has eveything I love about my previous '00 R12RT and everything I want in my next bike - naked being a big factor.
I added a bunch of options so the bike had to be ordered from BMW. I've just recently received "order acceptance" from BMW and am now awaiting a "production date".
I was curious if anyone else out there has been through this process recently and could share their turn around time for production and shipping into the U.S.?
Thanks and I look forward to reading everyone else's stories as more of these bikes begin hitting the road.

Mine is in the showroom. I ordered it with a bunch of accessories that are not in stock at the dealership, so I'm wondering how long it will take in this case. I'll keep you posted here. I placed the order on 03/09/07.

Sounds great. I also opted for the pin striping. But did not go with the top box. I did get the side bags.
I will be looking for a removable passenger backrest for my wife. I'm not against changing the entire seat to get it if I must. I haven't seen anything that will suit me just yet.

I ordered my R12R in October 06 and just got it several weeks ago. I would have bought one off the showroom floor, but I didn't want all the extra stuff that came with the first batch to hit the states. I saw no use for the onboard computer, for example. I can feel the temperature when I'm riding and don't need to be told digitally. No offense to those who want it though...to each his own.
One night, while waiting for my bike to arrive, my wife called to me and asked what color BMW I had ordered. Apparently, a cargo ship carrying some Beemers had beached off England and she was watching them being taken away by the locals on TV. Luckily, mine was on another ship. It did make for some interesting calls between the dealer and me, though.

Just found out today - production on my bike started 3/20/07. The next step is getting a ship date. Tick tock tick tock. Waiting patiently - okay, maybe not so patiently.

Just got back from a test ride. I was impressed enough I would have bought one on the spot if the color and extras had been right. The dealer is going to look around for one, but when I asked about ordering one he said he could not order anything. Can someone explain how ordering from the factory is supposed to work?
Thanks,
John

I heard that same story from a dealer who shall remain nameless before I was able to order. I went to Sills Motor Sales in Cleveland Ohio and Ken sent the order in on a computer while I was sitting by his desk. He got a confirmation and a tentative production date. He kept me abreast of the production and shipping information all the way along the line. If I had to guess, and I know very little about vehicle sales, it would be that some dealerships want to sell what they have first. I shamelessly plug Sills and Ken because it was the most pleasant and hassle free motorcycle buying experience I've ever had. I recommend them to anyone in these parts.

I had to order because I wanted ESC, pin striping so it had to be ordered. Since they were ordering it I threw in the tire pressure monitor too. I did not opt for the ASC, I was afraid it as it hasn't been proven. Their integral ABS system had to go through a few iterations before it reached its current status.
I figured since I was going to enjoy many many years of riding on this bike as I did with my 2000 RT, it was worth waiting for. Although every warm day that passes now makes me second guess the decision I made on a very cold January afternoon.

Thanks for the info, guys. The dealer called me back on Monday to say that they could order a bike for me after all. I think rmak nailed it when he said they wanted to sell what they had.
I went back to the dealer yesterday, gave them a deposit, signed an order form, and received a production number. They said I will get a VIN and production date shortly, with a delivery some time in June.
As for the bike: Granite Gray Metallic with ABS, ASC, OBC, TPM, White LED Signals, Heated Grips, Center Stand, and High Seat. Might have ordered the Alarm, but the dealer couldn't say what it did.

I ordered mine 21st January 07 and collected it 16th March07.
My preferred dealer could only offer a June delivery. I think in the UK they keep supplies a bit tight to not oversupply the market and maintain secondhand prices.
I've just had my first service which cost £90.
I've already dropped it through not having the prop stand fully out. HeyHo! Such is life.

Now that is out of the way and you won't have to worry about it again.

YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Spoke to the dealer today. Got my VIN # an ETA of April 19th (12 days and counting). I think that is the day it arrives in customs though so it will be a short while after that hopefully.

I forgot to ask - for those that have taken delivery of their custom orders, what should I expect as a turn around time for customs on this side of the pond?

I'm in Seattle. I special ordered my 07 R1200ST on February 5, was told by my dealer that the bike was scheduled for production the second week of March and later they told me that it was in transit on March 27. My bike entered Customs in New Jersey and was at my Seattle dealer on April 4.

The eagle has landed.
the bike arrived at the dealer today. I am picking it up Saturday morning. I'm torn between hitting the road right away or wiring my GPS first then hitting the road.
I think I'll hit the road first and wire the GPS Saturday night.
I'll post pics once I get off the bike - possibly some time on Tuesday.

Mine's an order too - only way to get ASC here. In fact, the dealer was keen and ordered it before we'd even signed the contract.
Crystal grey
ABS + ASC
Main stand
Computer
Everything else is dealer fit. As I've posted, ordered without pannier mounts so I can fit the rack (etc).
I'm told it's 12 weeks from order (23 May) to delivery - so that's late August. No production date yet, but I haven't been chasing.
All this waiting turns a fella's mind to farkeling .. oh, oh, dear
