G'day from Downunder.
How much strength/leeway is in GVWR on the 1200R
Ive been informed I need a K1200GT for 490 payload but want to know if that will kill the 1200R.
As an old R rider I like the twins.
Would an aftermarket shock help, is subframe strong?
Be kind now, some of us cant help it.

Howdy mate:

From the BMW site:

Weight - Dry

437 lbs.

Max permissible weight

923 lbs.

The math says 486 payload. Somewhere else I read 500 lbs even. I'll check my owners manual and if it should say something different I'll post again. The new 12R deserves a test ride by you. My guess is, ride it, you'll buy it.

I checked my owner's manual. That's where I had seen the 500 lb payload figure. It says, wet weight with 90% of the tank full is 492 lbs. Permissible gross weight, 992 lbs. 500 lb. max payload.

Thanks DR

Its almost do able. No panniers etc.
There must be (hopefully) a safety/conservative factor built in.
Cheers
