Hey all. I'm new to the forum and am in the process of getting my bike back in running order after being stationed overseas for about 20 months.

The bike is a 2002 1150R which I 'winterized' based on posts I've read here (full tank w/stabil, oil change, new brake/clutch fluid, etc) prior to leaving. The bike was covered and inside a trailer during that time.

I've since gotten the bike running...new plugs, fresh gas, oil change, new battery, and valve adjustment, but the bike won't stay running at idle and surges horribly while accelerating (front wheel leaves the pavement if I'm not extremely careful with the throttle). At highway speeds it seems to run decently, but not nearly as well as I remember.

I'm no stranger to tools, but I'm not sure what else I should look at to get my bike back to its former sweet self.

Did you put some fuel injector cleaner in with the gas? I'd try that first. Sounds like fuel problems to me.

Did you sync the throttle bodies with a Twin Max?

smoritz.....even though you put stabil and new gas, all the gas can't be drained/pumped out of the tank and guess what was left back......yes, the crud and water.

Put 1/2 bottle of Techron concentrate and run the bike for 50 miles or so.....vary the load on the engine and she will clear out......patience.....

Did you check for mice in the airbox..

The Stabil treats the Fuel in the Tank but most people forget to run the Bike for several miles to get the stabil enriched fuel into the fuel system. Using Injector Cleaner helps. But I refer from using it. I produced those Injectors EV1 at Bosch in Charleston SC for years. We ran those Injectors with Viscor which is a substitute for Gas.
Just fill up with some High Octane Fuel or use some Octane booster which has the same effect. Mainly you need to run as much fuel as possible through you fuel system to clean the Injectors.
