Fascinating! Thanks for posting that URL here. It looks like riders in NY take off early Fridays and come back later Sunday nights, albeit tired and accident prone. I'm glad I made it through that lethal age group (25-29)!

This is a good breakdown of rider accicdent data, the best I've seen since the Hurt Report.

Anyone know if other states DMV's compile motorcycle accident data? Florida reports for all vehicles, but I haven't seen motorcyclists broken out. It's helpful to know when you have to be even more careful!

Interesting!

BTW, according to the American Motorcyclist Association, New York state has NO state funded rider training program available for novice riders. Also N.Y. allows motorcycles to travel two abreast in a single lane. Could be a couple of reasons why the New York state motorcycle fatality is so high.

Single vehicle accidents are 42.7% of the total, and 37.5% of the fatalities. Wow! That really surprised me.

Maybe because "Unsafe Speed" and Driver Inattention" contributed to over 30% of all accidents?

Thanks, very interesting. Esspecially the stat that sans helmet decreased the fatality rate. Freedom of choice should rule!

And, "unknown" helmet use is even safer!

Interesting stats - twice as likely to die with a helmet on?

Less likely to die when drinking? Well, I was pretty surprised only 4 percent or so of fatal accidents involved alcohol. Everywhere else I've seen more like 30-40 percent quoted.

Looks to me like a drunk 20 year old without a helmet, as long as they don't speed, should be immortal.

Well, in my experience they certainly seem to believe that.

Interesting to note though, you never see Motor Police traveling together other than two abreast.

Interesting, thanks for the link. I would have thought elderly (over 70) drivers percentages were much higher. They are really bad in my area!
