List, I have an 80th anniversary edition Rockster. Want to replace the stock can (and cat?). I'm sure this topic has been addressed but couldn't find it. I'm looking at a Remus system. A couple of questions. I'm only finding one on-line "store" that carries the system for the 1150R/Rockster. They list a y-pipe connector ("loud version"), and a "Revolution" can (I like Carbon) w/removable baffle. Any recommended suppliers out there? With the Remus y-connector, should I be concerned about other "stock" connections (ie O2 sensor)? I suppose that changing the can w/o changing out the cat would be a waste of money. How loud is this system? I don't want to unsettle the neighbors TOO much. This has been a GREAT site for info..Thanks

Yes you NEED to remount the O2 sensor - but it's an easy job, if you have the correct tools (IIRC it's an odd size wrench - 16mm or something, I was lucky to have one in my toolchest).

The Y-piece is what makes the bike's performance increase - it removes a lot of restriction.

The Can is what changes the note of the bike - but the baffle doesn't make "too" much difference.

One thing I WILL say - do NOT attempt to use the Y-piece with the original can. I did that, and because the can got so hot (it was providing the restriction, not the catalyser) my pannier case melted!!! There's now a small hole in the rear part of my pannir. (NOT happy!!)

I can highly recommend the "feel" of the bike with the Remus kit on - it feels far more "alive". It's the difference between hearing music in the next room, and being IN that room.

Riceburner, I finished reading the posts re: "the can is off" from beginning to end. Rather than the Remus set-up, I was dead set on removing my can and placing a small tail piece until I found that at the end of the thread, a lot of the guys were returning to stock set-ups. I still may try it....in the meanwhile, I'll still pursue the remus set-up....as many on the other thread mentioned though, it's a much more expensive proposition. I DO like the idea of keeping the cat (environmental concerns and all), and believe that having some type of can would cut down on vibration, and maintain some degree of balance (both aesthetically and weight distribution)

I love My Remus, the sound deep and throaty, the clean look, the losing all that weight!

Have to admit - I DO appreciate the clean look of the underside of the bike without that cat.

I was about to order a Remus system this morning when I thought up a question. The supplier that I would order from advertises a "y-pipe connector" with no mention of a port for the O2 sensor. They also list a "discontinued" "y-pipe connector with premuffler" which allows for O2 sensor to be used. I have an e-mail out to them. To those of you using the straight y-pipes.....is there usually a port/etc. for the O2 sensor? If not, what do you do? Thanks

Is the part specifically referenced to the R1150R or Rockster??

Because they could be selling a part for the R1200 - which has the O2 sensors in the earlier part of the downpipe.

there should be a threaded hole in the front part of the y-piece for the O2 sensor to screw into.

sorry for beating this subject to death. The supplier mentions that Remus mufflers (except Carbon) never need packing. I'm interested in Carbon. Is re-packing the can something we can do? How often do you do it? Where do you buy the "packing"....Thanks.

Packing burns, most of the time is fiberglass. As it burns the muffler becomes lauder and lauder until you decide that it is time to repact. Don't worry, this will take several years befor eit actually takes palce.

You can by the packing kit from the vendor some of the US charge $20 to $30 for the kit, I don't know about the Remus. Or you can go to Home Depot or Loews or even a new construction in your area and pick up a piec of scarp insulation. remove the old packing and with the new packing replace and tie down what you remove (it's good to mimic what you took apart) and Voila, new packing for under $2.

If your can end has rivets you will have to CAREFULLY drill them out and not enlarge the hole because you will be riveting the end cap on again.......I would hope that the Remus can, as expensive as they are, have screws.......
