BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I bought an R1200R today. I rode one last friday and fell in love.
Initially the dealer told me that I would have to wait until late october for it to be delivered, since the pannier mounts etc had to be installed at the factory in Germany. But I managed to talk them in to selling me the showcase bike (never driven) instead. The showcase bike allready has pannier mounts, computer and centre stand mounted, they just have to remove the fairing. I'll have to mount the white blinkers at a later time.

I hope I'll be riding by this weekend, fingers crossed.
I might be the first R1200R owner in Sweden.
I took my licens two weeks ago so this will be my first bike.

The color is of course blacker than darkness itself.

Those of you who own an R1200R, what are your impressions so far?

Congratulations! You are, I believe, the first owner on this board. Reports as able and stay safe.

Was promised delivery next friday/saturday a week ago, but it has not arriwed in Sweden yet. Hasn't tried it, but I already own a 12gsadv.

They've got a bike that you can try (if you ask them nicely) at BMW in Solna.

"Two wheels" in Umeå. I dont need to try it. I have not tried any of my bikes before I bought them. And I think I know what to expect from it.

I have done,
9500 km/ 9 months on a Rockster 80 ed -03,
15000 km/18 months on R1200GS -04,
8500 km/4 months on R1200GS Adventure -06,
5600 km/3 months on the F800S -06.
All good to tremendous bikes but I love the character of the boxer motor. My love for the F800S faded. It will be a tremendous bike when BMW sorted it out in one year or so.

I want one open built, naked bike and one who shields me and give me comfort on long travels AND can make duty on poo gravel roads AND on trackdays.

What options did you get? ABS brakes? ESA (electronic shocks)?

I'm curious, if you have ABS brakes, if there is an on/off button for the ABS?

I bet that bike rides nice. Be carefull, with the extra HP & torque over our lowly R1150R models, you may be able to loft the front pretty easily.

We need pictures & a ride report!

runeo, I see that you got rid of a F800S for the R1200R. Obviously you like the R1200R, but what were your impresssions of the F800S?

With 98 octane using Q8, it is very strong up to 4000 rpm, and very strong over 5500. with 95 octane it is lame up to 5500. At least with the petrol company I use ( Q8 )
Very smooth and steady on gravel roads of any quality, and very good grip with the contiattack on any type of road.
Very entertaining on "dancing" roads.
Works very good with passanger.
Works very good on long trips. 888.7 km in about 10 hr.
No turbulance around the helmet if you sit in a normal, slightley bent arms, position.
Dont like the rattle and all other sound from the clutch.
Dont like the poo gearbox.
Dont like the constant on off feeling when trying to ride at constant speed, lets say 60 km/hr. There is no difference if I am using second or sixth gear.
Dont say that all are like that. Mine was/is. When I saw the first picture of the black R1200R, I decided I would not wait one year to have the problem sorted out by BMW. AND I WANT THE BOXER MOTOR!!!

The gearboxes get better with mileage, as do the clutches. But you know this. We'd all like a comparison between the R1150R & the 1200, in any way/shape/form.

ABS and heated handle bars are standard in Sweden. I'm getting the smaller fairing (unmounted), chromed exhaust, centre stand, panniers and computer.

I'll be riding by next wednesday.

Price: 132 000 SEK ($US 18169.3)

There is no on/off button for the ABS. But the ABS is very well tuned so there is no need for one, unless you're not gonna ride it on a race track.

How would all of you rate and compare the ergonomics of the two. I find the early R1100 perfect for me and I'm curious how things have changed.
