So me and the girlfriend (both from the UK) are gonna be visiting Manhatten, for the first time, farely soon. We're really not into the usual tourest/shopping stuff. I would appreciate any 'must see' advice for a couple of bikers who both own and enjoy BMWs, streetfighters (me) and customs (her). Where's good to hang out or any special dealers, shops of interest. I'm a big music fan too, listening to most punk and rock as well as singer/songwriter stuff (Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, Suzanne Vega) so what's good for a music fan too? Appreciate any advice as we are gonna be there for a couple of weeks without our bikes and wanna make the most of it! Cheers, peeps!!

"Blue Note" in lower Manhattan, of course, if you like Jazz, if you don't you will start loving it!

IMO the best pizza in nyc. Not to mention the neighborhood has encredible entertainment value.

Just realised also that the Motegi round of Moto GP is on whilst we are there. I'm not sure how popular the series is over there... you know your boy Nicky Hayden is leading, right? Being totally ignorant to your TV over there, how likely is it to catch the race. Our hotel has cable. Would any bars show the race?

Freakboi.....If your hotel has cable and they have Speed Channel you can watch the Moto GP......you might want to email them. If not I'm sure you can get it at any of the sport bars around....if it's shown at a decent time.

the program schedule from speedtv.com has the motegi moto gp airing at 1pm eastern standard time (local time in NYC) on saturday 9/24/06.

The trick will be finding a bar that will turn on motorcycle racing over college footbal at the same time

baltm604 is right, no bar will switch to Speed Channel on a Saturday afternoon in the fall......College (American) Football rules on Saturdays...unless of course you can find a place that is a hangout for your countrymen. Might be better off going to a TV/Electronics store and watching their screens !

You're gonna want to check out "Hogs and Heifers" in the meatpacking district (as matter of fact the annual Lady Liberty Ride starts from there on the morning of 24 Sept, concludes with a BBQ/party in the street at about 2 pm). The BBQ is open to non-riders:

BMW Manhattan is on 57th and 11th Avenue but not really much to do there. There are no H-D dealerships in Manhattan. Indian Larry's shop is in Brooklyn.

Easy drive or bus ride from NYC. A.C. is also a worthwhile destination for gambling, shows, concerts, etc. Lots of hotels/casinos. I go down there once a year to see David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar/Yes/Chicago/etc...

Two great slightly offbeat museum destination are the Cloisters in upper Manhattan (the Medieval division of the Metropolitan Museum of Art) and
the Queens Museum of Art in Flushing Meadow Park (same complex where the US Open Tennis is held, 1964 World's Fair, also adjacent to Shea Stadium, take the # 7 train from Manhattan):

The Queens museum has a gigantic diorama of NYC (all 5 boroughs) that is huge. Worth seeing.

That would be FAO Schwarz. You can also try Macy's on 34th Street - 7th Floor piano dept - that's where I bought my baby grand.

I was gonna tell you to check out a great rock band from NYC, Dirty Rig, but they're gonna be in London on the 23rd! how funny!

as for renting bikes, I'm not aware of ANYONE renting bmws. You can get a H-D i'm sure.

as for where to go...there's so many choices it's ridiculous. You say you're into punk so you'll have to make a stop at CBGB. Especially since I hear they may close due to some major back rent being hit at them.

Oh yeah, CBGBs is on the list I keep hearing it's shutting and then I hear it's already shut... i'll just go and see what the score is for myself. I don't really want to add to the cost of the trip by hiring a bike, no matter how bad two weeks without riding may be Will probably try to find time to check out that Lady Liberty rally though. I can't help but feel that we are gonna love it there... and sorely hate leaving!

After taking quite a few cab rides I've got to take my hat off to anyone who rides around Manhattan... you guys are f'ing brave!!

Exactly what I said after my first visit to NYC last year! That said, I may get a chance to see my son play Carnegie for the 2nd time in his high school career this spring and am very much looking forward to going back! I had a great time also, even if I did look like a goober from the hills of NC!

Nah, you get used to it. Besides, it's worth it since we can usually park on the sidewalk for free !
