Pediatric Brain Tumor Ride for Kids

I would like once again to take the opportunity to show what I helped do this past weekend and promote a good cause at the same time. The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation puts on rides throughout the country to raise money for research into the cause and a cure for brain tumors affecting children. They help sponser research at Duke University (over one million dollars!) which is making great strides in finding treatment for this horrible cancer.
For the third year, I helped on the all volunteer task force for the Asheville, NC ride, working to set up the end point of the ride. Here are some pictures from our ride Sunday:
The first of our "stars" (kids with brain tumors or recovering) riding in sidecars or on bikes.
Lots of bikes! We had to go to the overflow parking area!
The tent and lunch for 850! Most of the lunch material is donated from stores and drink companies. Starbuck provided free coffee, pastries and workers! Voluteers assembled the lunches.

And all our stars this year. Keep in mind, nearly every year, at least one of these kids will not survive for the next years ride.

I encourage everyone in the vicinity of one of these rides to either donate and ride or donate and ride elsewhere (what I used to do!). It is a good cause and relies mostly on volunteer help and donations, so most of the money goes where it is supposed to!
