A defector

Hi, folks:
I am afraid I am defecting from our group. I loved my 2004 1150R and will miss it but I have traded it in for a 1200RT. My much-ridden 1150R needed some expensive replacements to continue serving as my daily commuter, tourer and main motor vehicle, and that was enough impetus for making the switch at this point. Thanks again to all for your help with various questions I've posted, and happy riding!

can i ask what were the expensive replacement parts? i need a legitimate reason to defect also. thank you.

Hey...no you don't...this is also an RT site..and many guys here have RT's...so..there's no need to leave...it's not just about the bike anyway.

Okay, I will hang around then if I don't have to defect!
The replacement parts were needed because I had Jesse cases put on the RR and to do that you have to relocate the rear pegs and various other bits. The service guys gave me those parts to save but, sadly, they were lost in the gigantic mess that is our garage. When I decided to replace the Jesse cases because they have so little ground clearance (which caused one of the cases to fall off a few hours after a twisty ride), I learned that to replace all the little parts needed to put on BMW System Cases would cost lots and lots of money. Hence...an RT has joined the stable! I know, it was just a flimsy excuse, but there you have it.

your excuse works for me. when i almost traded my girl, it would have been because the rt looked comfortable on the show "feasting on asphalt". the host looked so relaxed on that bike. i try to relax on mine, but i stay occupied trying not to attract chp. i don't think i would have that problem on an rt. or would i?

You might! I have found that the RT's fairing makes it easy for the speed to creep up without noticing it.
Then again, some say that the CHP may give BMWs more of a break, especially if the riders are wearing protective gear, since they look more like transportation bikes than squidly death machines.
I think all the boxers are great bikes and you can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Ebet.......with due respect.....reading your post kinda tells me two things
A) You are a take charge person and B) You are not married.
Your excuse for trading bkes is as good as the guy that had all his teeth straightened, capped and whitened, bucause he had an important job.......3 days a week he wore the Mickey D's costume and greeted customers at the local store......
My wife would have me tar and feathered if I had the audacity to come up wit a story like that, she does know about mechanical things.....
All in all congrats, enjoy the new ride and stay over for a bit......I'm envious......
