Special effects at the opera...

OK, I mentioned that I was singing in an opera recently and said I'd share some pictures of the makeup I had to wear... Well, here are the pics... The opera is Mozart's Don Giovanni and the production took place in Walnut Creek, CA. This was an updated production in which the entire opera takes place in Don Giovanni's nightclub the "Cafe Liberty". My character, the "Commendatore", is killed by Don Giovanni at the beginning of the opera and comes back to life at the end of the show to drag the Don to hell... In this production I come back to life as a halfway cremated zombie. Usually, it's a stone monument that comes back to life, but the director wanted something different, VERY different.

AWESOME Toner! I love opera, as I do classical (and jazz) music. The makeup is frighteningly convincing for the part.

Don Giovanni is one loooong opera. Do you guys do the entire thing?

yjleesvrr, yes we did the whole opera and managed to get her done in under 3 hours some nights, a bit over other nights...
RD, nope, I did not leave the theater in that makeup. I probably would have ended up being taken to the hospital by some well meaning citizen!

Taking off the makup was the most tedious part of the process and required a long, hot shower and lots of soap and scrubbing.

Too bad Toner...it would have been fun to see you walk down Walnut Creek's Main Street after the opera. Very cool makeup. It's amazing what those artists can do. Thanks for the photos.

Opera huh? Not your everyday motorcycle board fare! I love it!
