Intermittant Rear Brake Switch

I have noticed that my rear brake light flashes on and off intermittantly as I am riding my R1100RT. On examining the rear brake pedal, there appears to be some play in the pedal linkage before it operates the brake piston and this is enough to allow the switch to make and break as I ride over bumps in the road.
Has anyone else encountered this??? Is there any adjustment that can sort this out, or do I need to replace the pedal linkage or perhaps the switch??
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Our R1150R bikes have a coil hairpin spring attached to the pedal pivot point - - - if your 1100RT is anything like that (it should be very similar) - - - maybe your return spring broke. It's linkage is also adjustable on ours by removing the pivot pin, part #3 in

It sounds like you need a few minutes of help from someone with wrenching ability. The dealer, for that matter, any M/C dealer, will often freely make this safety related adjustment, or tell/show you how to do it. It can't hurt to ask.

Thanks for the info. I have found the solution to the problem, partly from your advice and also partly from the manual:-
If you read the part in the manual about the brake switches, it says that there is no adjustment possible for the switch and it needs to be replaced.
However, if you read the part about replacing the brake pedal/master cylinder, it informs you that there is actually an adjustment on the end of the master cylinder push rod. You have to release the locking nut on the lower part of the push rod. The push rod can then be adjusted for length by rotating the push rod against the threaded end fitting. This removes the play in the switch and solves the problem. It should be adjusted so that there is 0.2mm play between the pedal stop bolt that actuates the switch and the switch itself when the pedal is not being pressed.
After making the adjustment, carefully check the operation of the brake switch. It should make and illuminate the brake light when the pedal is pressed, but should not activate the brake light when the pedal is shaken (like riding over bumps).
Mine now works fine.
