modifying campbell-hausfeld pump rp1200

I got the above cheapo pump and have taken out the guts of it to carry on my RR.
to make it more compact can I
remove the cooling fan--since it is now exposed, unnecessary, right?
remove the switch and just control the on/off by plugging in and unplugging?

I did the same thing. Cooling fan is not needed. Dremel off at the stem. I left the switch on and taped it down then hot wired the pump to the battery via a Centech fused block. That way I just pull it out from under the seat and switch it on to pump. It actually resides in the little space on top of the air filter cover just under the rear edge of the gas tank. Very easy to access and use now.

Before I knew about your inexpensive solution, I bought one of these Cycle Pumps

It works very well but it is very pricey at $80.

thanks, Boxer. Dremeled off the cooling fan/shaft and rerouted and screwed down the switch to one of the screw holes between the compressor and the motor. secured loose wires down to the motor and made a loop in the power cable so I can hang the whole shebang from a brake/clutch lever for the front or foot peg for the rear. That way that big white gear won't catch on anything. stashed it as suggested.
