shaft seal leak

I did a search and appears there is a special tool required for seal replacement. How difficult is the seal to replace? Dealer is 2 hrs away and not a good one at that. (2002 1150R) only has 3K miles. It also seams there is some slop in the driveline under certain conditions like coasting to lights and accelerating before coming to a stop. Normal drive shaft operation? There is no side end play in the rear wheel. ---------Thanks Rethy

Don't know about the special tool tbh.

But yeah there IS a bit of slop in the drive train if you're used to Japanese chain drive bikes. Don't worry too much about it unless it gets really bad.

Rethy, My seal also went out (at about 4,200 miles). Mine was replaced under warranty without difficulty (2004 Roadster). The dealer told me that, although not frequent, it happens enough to keep a stock of seals on hand. Good luck with the repair...
