GPS losing external power

I went riding today and after about 75 miles from home, my GPS kept turning off. It said it was losing external power. Does anyone know why this would happen and how I can fix it? I stopped once and checked the connection between the GPS cord and the adaptor cord for the accessory socket (which I keep under the front seat). It was just a tiny bit loose, but not much. I tightened the fit, but about 5 minutes later, I lost power again.
It's a Garmin 176C.

It is definitely a loose connection not withstanding the rigors of the ride. On mine it was the cigar style adapter interface with the GPS supplied plug...just would not stay tight. I ended up hard wiring a cord to go directly into the BMW accessory socket--problem solved.

you can buy a direct power lead for the garmin and then hook that up directly to your battery, fusebox, or almost any other powered line. You run the wire under your gas tank to the front wherever you're putting the garmin.

Here's a cheap solution. I use a rubber band twisted around the female socket end of the powerlet adapter. I twist the other end around the male plug of the GPS DC power cord. The rubber band holds enough inward pressure on the connection to keep it from vibrating loose.
