I finally did a valve adjustment

Well, I finally did a valve adjustment on my 2003 R1150R. It had been about 17,000 miles since the dealership had done the last adjustment, so I figured I was way over due. Since the dealership wants $220.00 for a valve adjustment and carb balance I figured I had better learn to do this myself. I searched all over the net and I finally found a twinmax for less than $80.00 (new). With the help of a friend who used to race motocross and has worked on bikes for the past 20 years, and downloading oilhead valve adjustment for dummies, I felt confident in it being a successes. I was really surprised to find the valves not that far out of adjustment (exhaust were right on and intake were only off by .1000). The twinmax should be delivered sometime this week and I am anxious to see if my carbs are out of sync. It’s nice to have it done for my peace of mind and I do plan on doing both every 6,000 miles. I love my (black) R1150R and I want it to last, my wife says it’s the “hottest†looking bike she has ever seen. I think the dealership prices are out of line, especially since it takes no parts to do this service, and a experienced mechanic could probably have both done in a hour. But that’s my opinion… and we all know what they say about opinions
