Discoloured tank on my Rockster

Just had my tank replaced under warranty today. The bike is a white/black special edition but the tank had gone a beautiful shade of cream during the summer. When the service manager at Rainbow (in Rotherham) saw it he was shocked it was so bad, he didn't believe me when I told him over the phone about it.
Any how BMW want it back to find out what's gone wrong with the paint.
Anyone else had this problem ....... it did look terrible !!!!

Dunno about Barnsley [as it's not known for its sunshine  ] but, some time ago, there were loads of cases of this happening in the sunshine belt of America. As we've had a good summer here in England, perhaps it's the same "bleaching" problem.

BMW "central" must certainly know about the problem, 'cause there were so many involved at the time.

This paint fade problem is known to happen with the Series 80 model.

Is there anything you can do to prevent the fading? I also have an ED 80 #842 and I can't find how to protect the matte finish here in New Mexico, home of exceptionally strong UV.
