I have a deal on a 2003 R1150R for $7200. The bike looks absolutely new. It has 1600 miles on it. Black, tinted windscreen. No luggage.

Is this a good deal and is this a great bike? Should I buy it? Help a brother out. It will be my first BMW.

The 1150R is a great bike.

Hey Jack - I used to have a black 2003 R1150R! I bought it with 6000 miles on it for $7000 - this was about 18 months ago. It was like new and had few accessories and no ABS.

It is a fantastic bike and that is a beautiful color. I had some mild "surging" issues with my single-spark model. My dual-spark RT has not had these issues so I recommend dual-spark. ABS is something everyone has an opinion about - I like it but not having it would not be a deal-breaker for me, because I have been riding without it for 25 years!

The R1150R has an amazing feel to it. The torque is exhilarating on this bike. It does not have good weather protection, but that is a personal issue - some folks like the wind and others don't.

It is a light bike and it accomodates riders of pretty much any skill or experience level.

I do not think the R is a good long-haul 2up bike, so if you are thinking of taking the SO on a cross-country trip, you should consider another bike.

The R1150R is a great bike. I think you should be able to get that price down by at least 500.00. Consider the bike vis-a-vis your needs and make a decision - this board is a great resource for your questions.

Seems like a decent deal, certainly low miles. And you won't find a better all-around bike. Might not do certain things as well as some other bikes (touring on an RT or off road like a GS for instance) but it beats everything for being a jack-of-all-riding kind of bike.

And it is the proper BMW color!

Black '03 R1150R....Hmmmm?....Sounds familiar. I have 43,000 on my '03. Runs better all the time. You might get him down a little since it seems to not have many add-on accessories. 1600 miles is practically brand new! What kind of tires on it? Did you say it was non-ABS?

Knowing what I know about mine, I'd do it in a heartbeat...but try to get him down some first.

Black R1150R....... yeah, sounds familiar here too.

I put 60,000 miles on mine before selling it a couple years ago.

Buy it, unless you're a commitment-phobe. You're gonna love it

I bought mine in June 2005 at around the same price with 1300 miles on the clock. It had City cases and a Staintune pipe and was in pristine condition. That number you have, sounds fair.

Do check the latest MCN issue for pricing information . It has "suggested" prices for used bikes.

Can't help you out with the pricing, but after putting on 8400mi since the end of this May on my new 04, I will tell you without hesitation the R is a GREAT bike.
This is also my first BMW, and there were a few things I had to learn to do differently after riding UJMs for years. Took me ~4200mi to learn how to shift the thing!
The R is solid as a chunk of billet at any speed
Gobs of torque
Good throttle response
Comfy ergos...at least for my 300milers.
Very unique, but coool styling...you won't riding what everyone else is riding, fer sure....
After 8000 trouble free but smile-loaded miles , there are only 2 things that bother me...
The spline lube issue...
And the damn squeaky front brakes!

Found another one in Dallas and bought it yesterday for $7300. It has everything.

I don't get it! One '03 R1150R with only 1600 miles on it....And now another one with just 2300 miles on it. I would love to hear the history behind these bikes.

Why would someone buy a bike and then not ride it? Could these bikes have been bought by individuals who passed away shortly after purchasing?

I just find it hard to believe that someone interested enough to buy one has not ridden it enough to turn the headers blue.

I met the seller at a Dallas Honda dealer where he is well known among the staff. The finance manager said he had never even seen a 1150R until the week before when one of their mechanics bought another black 2003 with almost the exact same mileage as mine.

To sum up: In Dallas in the last two weeks, three different black 2003 R1150Rs with less than 2300 miles.

After riding this bike for one day, I don't get it either.

Back and Carpal tunnel release surgeries has slowed me some as
I only have 2800 mi on my 04 but no worky(retired) now so look out
next spring or earlier if I go south.

The story on the one I recently bought was that the guy had been out of bikes for a while and bought it as a re-entry bike. However, he was intimidated by the size/weight/power and consequently didn't feel comfortable on it. When I test drove it he kept saying "be careful, it will get away from you". I said yeah, right. - Lee
