Ever had a parking garage gate come down on you?

This actually, really, honestly happened to yours truly last weekend. Was exiting a parking garage in Los Angeles after paying the fee, starting to ride out, all systems go, mindin' my own business, when the gate (one of those wooden arms that swings down) suddenly descended while I was halfway through, on top of my arms! Then the gate attendant could not figure out how to raise it - egad. I couldn't move forward or backward because my arms were pinned down pretty tightly (ouch). After a few minutes a supervisor figured out how to raise the gate. Yeesh! It was the parking experience from HELL....

B*gger! Can I say that on the board? I'm glad you're not injured.
I think about that everyday when I have to exit the parking garage from where I park the bike at work.

That would have been a little scary Ebet1. It's a good job it stopped and didn't cause more damage, like crushing your arms and damaging your tank.
Maybe you'll have to dash through opened boom gates in future
just in case

Almost got nailed doing this coming out of a parking garage in Pasadena, Cal, last Spring - it was very entertaining to the two attendants in the toll booth who started hooting and hollering when they saw me do an emergency manuver consisting of swerving followed by an emergency brake when I got to the street - just like in the ERC!
Glad you are okay. Good luck with those toll gates in the future. Another good reason to ride ATGATT!

That could have been a lot worse! Glad you are OK. Never had it happen on a bike, although one came down on top of my car one time because some bozo stopped in front of me and I couldn't get clear.

I had one hit me in the head earlier this summer. Luckily, I was wearing a helmet. As I park in a lot just about every day, I am now very conscious to keep moving quickly through the gate -- never stop until I am fully clear. The weight/metal on the R1150R just isn't enough to keep the sensitive sensors for some of those gates from thinking that you have already passed.

Bob, can you believe this did happen to me in Pasadena?! Maybe it was even the same parking garage! If so, they are building up some bad karma....

No kidding! We ought to protest to the city council or something!
I was passing through LA on my way from Phoenix when I became stuck in a deluge on the 210 (it had been raining since Pomona). Got off in Pasadena, pulled in to a garage behing a little coffee shop on the South side of Colorado, and waited out the rain with a nice cup of tea.

They must make them of different materials. I had one come down on me in Anchorage, while riding my bike. I did tell them I was sorry for breaking it.
It shattered into many little pieces. Not a mark on the bike - it hit me in the shoulder. I guess going faster rather than slower was the trick.
