Planning an Alaska Ride:

Post by swamper »

I'm planning an Alaska ride this summer. If anyone here has any recommendations of cool places we should visit please let me know. Were leaving on June 19th and returning on July 22. We have booked a ferry on our return route from Skagway to Bellingham. We aren't taking our R bikes. My son will be riding his 2014 Vee Strom 1000 and I'll be on our 2013 650 Vee Strom. Don't worry we are still riding the R bikes a lot, my son is taking his to the Reg Pridmore track day at Sonoma in a couple of weeks. I'm riding mine a majority of the time between out 7 bikes.

Cant help but was curious on why you are taking the wee over the R? do you find it better on longer trips? is the riding position more comfortable?

Comfort isn't an issue between the Strom and the R. I have both set-up similarly however the Strom has a lot more room between the seat and the pegs so on long days the knees do better. We will be on the bikes for over a month. It's more about the amount of storage space and the distance we can go on fuel. My R will only go about 200 on a tank including the reserve light coming on at 180. The Vee Strom can go 280-300 with it's fuel capacity and much better MPG, around 55-58.
