I liked the "Britons say 'It was like Hull'!"
Very funny, unless your from Hull!
The rest of it risque...especially if you're from the left edge of the bigpond!

Dean: No fake. However, the web site was amended quickly following intervention by No 10. Apparently, Bush's comments were from an off the record briefing and were quoted "out of context".

Andy,
Dean may be a county boy, but not even he will believe that one.

It would be like the New York Times making jokes about the bombing in London.
Hmmm . . . people who make jokes about others misfortune and the death of hundreds, need some serious psychiatric assistance.
The British are known for having a droll sense of humor, not a sick one. God help them if it was true.

Wish I had a picture of a rat's *ss so I could show what I think about the BBC's coverage of US politics and events. Just my luck, I will be in London most of this week - will have to tune in to the Clinton News Network to keep up with world events...

I'm kind of wondering where the line between politics and comedy on this one is? The humor is certainly lost on me.

Not a great fan of the BBC, huh? How so?
While you're in London, maybe try Channel 4. Their news coverage is actually very good. Or, of course, you can watch CNN!
The humor is certainly lost on me.
I wasn't sure when I made the original posting if it might be lost. British humour is, erm, how can I put this? Not everyone's cup of tea. "The Office" was a great hit over here but the humour somehow got lost as it travelled across the Pond. I think it's a cultural difference.
I apologise if the original posting offended any of you guys.

Humor is very subjective, but it can also provide a great sense of relief, especially after a tragedy.
Some subjects may be too sensitive, even for parody, such as the 9/11 attack.
In this case, it seems to me that no jokes are made about the actual victims of the disaster. It is more of a parody about Bush and others.
Heck, even Hitler is acceptable as a subject for satire (e.g. Mel Brooks' "The Producers") but jokes about the Holocaust are not acceptable. There is a distinction between the two.

rdsmith3,
“In this case, it seems to me that no jokes are made about the actual victims of the disaster. It is more of a parody about Bush and others.†Perhaps, but I’m not sure how these quotes below fit into that “parody†exactly. I kept the misspelled words as presented. Maybe I’m just a bit old fashioned, I may not have taken my approach if it came from inside the States. I guess I’m a bit touchy about outsiders making fun of our tragedy.
“E-mail this to someone called Katrinaâ€Â
“Hurricane-proof version (not available in New Orleans)â€Â
“New Orleans: dampâ€Â
“A boat and a 'shortgun' Just an ordinary day out for your average redneck.â€Â
“Apolyptic scenes of fires, floods and violence. Fundamentalists say “It’s the homos’ fault. Them and the Commies.â€Â
As I stated in my first post, "It would be like the New York Times making jokes about the bombing in London." I guess I could also add making jokes about the Tsunami in Asia.
"Humor is very subjective," I guess so.

Jonathan -
Actually, I like the BBC's documentaries, and I enjoy BBC4 on my trips to London. I just am a little testy about British liberal criticism of our foreign policy. I am also testy about American liberal criticism of our foreign policy.
I'll be at Canary Wharf on Thursday and Russell Square on Friday - as always looking forward to a visit to the UK.
