BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

When I was a younger man, while lying in bed before sleep, I would think of women... lucious, beautiful, curvey, naked, and compliant women. I'm a lot older, perhaps a bit wiser (perhaps not), and have been faithfully married to the lovely Peggy for almost 26 years. Now, when my mind wanders before sleep, it drifts toward naked bikes and curvey roads. It's O.K. My life is still rich and satisfying.

My dreams are mostly of the eagerly awaited R1200R. In these dreams (And brother, they're some kinda sweet!), the R1200R is to the R1200S as the K1200R is to the K1200S. In other words, it shares an engine with the S and not with the GS. Would this not be the best of all possible worlds?

My prediction is for the model year 2007. I've seen a photo of the 2006 and it's the same twin spark as the '05...Just some new colors. It seems to me, and a dealer told me this once, that the RR is BMWs way of staying within a certain price range in the US. They have no financial reasons for updating the current oilhead on the RR until the GS and RT, etc with the Hexhead engine have become old news. So I think the R1200R will be the Hexhead engine and some style changes and lighter frame but not until 2007.

Just a guess. We'll see. In the meantime, I love my '03 and it just keeps getting better with 40K on it now.

For some reason, I have only been made aware that a new R1200R will be comming out and I have talked with two high ups at BMW, I have no particulars beyond that, my guess is that sometime in '06 they will be introduced.

On the other hand, I think that the upcomming R1200S will be stunning and in several versions, one of which will be in the 130HP range and trick, very trick. I expect the R-S in the first quarter next year, '06

Let me add, that the new "Hexhead" R bikes are vastly superior over the "Oilhead" series and the Oilheads are great.

Thanks Dean. I know I would be happy with the new hexhead powered R1200R, even in the 100hp version. But I sure would like more.

If the 1200S is released before the 1200R, I will have to make some hard choices. I am so ready to retire my 1100R and get a new hexhead.

The anticipation is killing me.

Given that our current Roadsters typically dyno in the mid-70's range, I'll gladly take anything above 80 with less weight. I don't mind the weight of the current R, but more power never hurts.

Ah Dean, you live in what appears to be paradise and you get to be in-the-know with BMW. How better can life get?

Yong, Mz Pam and I are indeed extremely very fortunate, we talk about that all the time, on the other hand, we prolly have the smallest bank account on the board.

I'm going to share my version...in my oppinion the R150R is the best bike that BMW makes for the money. That being said I see BMW cutting down their former offerings of R, RS, RT, S and GS to four RS, RT, GS and either an R or an S.

However logic tells me that BMW will never make an R with more HP than the RS or RT and since the GS at 100hp is so very close to the other two, the nod will go to the S with 125 or 130 hp. What I'm saying is that the S will have minimal plastic, and take the slot for both the S and the R at a higher price, of course.

You see the Germans, Porsche, Audi and BMW seem to have been somewhat sucessfull in selling lesser number of cars at a higher price and make money at it. The models have been evolutionary, not revolutionary.

On the other hand, Motorrad does have two brand new models......which I still don't understand the market niche they are after.........just my 2 cents.

I'm sure there is method in their madness. Perhaps even logic, of a sort. I'm not sure, however, that my little pea-brain can fathom it.

What's up with the HP2, for instance? Luxo-enduro, or perhaps a way to get back to Dakar.

I simply cannot face that BMW Motorrad would drop the Roadster. Didn't I just read a post somewhere that the 1150R had been named as Britain's (or was it England's) most popular sportbike? Maybe I'm just in denial.

I don't know. If they release an R1200S, and tell me for sure there will be no 1200R, then I will somewhat reluctantly pony up the cash for an 'S'. And I know I'll love it... well maybe after I install the bar-backs.
