Is there a good fitting leather saddlegbag for the 1150R? any recomondations ? I had large rectangular BATES bags on my 73 R75 30 years ago and they were great for travel but big for daily use, what's the norm now for weekend trips. ?????????

Seriously...I have never seen any soft leather bags for this bike. There have been a couple of people who have opted for the textile type bags, but by and large the best choice will always be the system cases. Waterproof, hard, easy on/off, fit the bike well, ...what more could you ask for?

I'd like to have someone carry them for me.

Boxer is quite correct. One can only go with some of the textile saddle bags and/or duffle bag, or go with the System cases. I know one can get Givi to fit on a BMW, but with the exception of their tail bag, they don't look just right to my eye.

The System cases are pricy, true enough, but they are the best. Perfect? No! Just the best.

Do you get Oxford gear in the US? If so they have a wide range of bags in fabric which fit almost any bike. I have the tail and tank bags as well as BMW system cases, so I could move house. But fabric bags will both fit on the back at the same time which works very well for me. One on the rack one on the seat. I hate using the system bags in trafic. I've already knocked over a Smart car with them.

the problem with aftermarket leather or textile is you will have to lower your exhaust.

The system cases aren't cheap, but you can always sell them for almost as much as you paid for them (75% of purchase price.

I have the TourMaster Cortech sport saddlebags which have been on the bike for some time now. They are a nice alternative to the BMW system cases. A co-worker has the system cases which I do like better but could not justify the cost difference. I paid $130.00 for these.

They are NOT water proof or even very water resistant. There is an outside cover for rain protection. I have flooded mine several times when the bike is sitting still.

They sit very nice on the bike and look really good. I have the piedmont red and went with the black bags. They are a 'through over' type of bag with no additional support. The mounting issues I have had are that they sit a little far forward but still lie totally on the passenger seat. They also have scratched my carbon canister, oh well. There has been no other damage to the bike from them.

My commute to work is 40 miles per day. My co-workers commute is 130 miles per day. If I was going his distance or doing lots of touring, I would buy the system bags. With my travels, these bags were the best alternative for the money. They also have a tail bag which I have not looked into.

Oh, and no mods to the exhaust are necessary with the TourMaster bags.

I know it doesn't really answer your question, but bite the bullet and get the system bags. They're so convenient and nearly indestructable. And you can get a decent set of liners to pull out and carry.

I'll second the vote for the Cortech solution. I also have the top bag that can be used by itself or attached to the saddlebags.

If you're interested, I have a set of Nelson Rigg Delux saddle bags that I'd like to sell. I purchased them to take on a trip with the wife riding 2 up. But she didn't like the straps across the seat and they won't fit under the seat. The seem to be pretty nice bags and have never been used. They go for around $129, you can have them for $60 plus shipping.
