OK-Here we go-

I have a 02-r1150r I purchased about 7 months ago and have very much enjoyed the bike and this forum.

So... The manual specifies for the standard tires and one rider: Front-31.3/ Rear-35.5
The sticker on the bike itself calls for 36lb for front-42lb for rear. Non of these numbers are greater than max listed on tires.

The front does feel a touch heavy with the the manual's recommendations but any insight would be appreciated. I am running Michelin Pilots.

I run 36-38 front and 42-44 rear. Inflate to those values and you'll see a huge improvement in handling and feel.

I run 36/42 on the street, 30/30 at the track.

Run whatever the TYRE manufacturer recommends for that bike with that tyre. Their information will be newer than the bike manufacturers, and it will be specific to their tyres.

I tend to run just over 36/42.

Thanks all- I obviously have been running 5-6 lbs light in both tires. Looking forward to better handling/mileage with the increased air.

Rather than just tell you what to run, the best advice I got was that the difference between cold and hot pressure should be about 10% if they are inflated correctly.

That said, and using that method, I settled on 36 F and 42 rear!

my old bald-as-hell metzelers felt good at 36/40 in the summer. bumped to 42rear for a two up ride.

Well, cold weather and winter is upon us. It would be a good idea to change out that old stale and warm winter air in your tires for fresh cold winter air. Your tires will feel so much better and you'll immediately realize a handling and traction benefit. Plus if you do get caught out when the snow and ice start to fall you can rest easy knowing that you'll still be able to reach your destination safely.

Excellent Point !! Also "winter air" is like a "poor man's nitrogen" with it's lower moisture content. So save your money - instead of N2 just use fresh and free "Winter Air".

Does it have to be Bavarian Air, from my dealer, or will any old air suffice ???

Well if the tires are Bavarian then yes use the Dealer's air. In the event there is no matching tire/air available then just use cold air.

From my research the following is the basic rules I use for proper tire inflation:
Never go below the minimum recommended pressure from the bike manufacturer and never go above the maximum recommended pressure from the tire manufacturer. The tire pressure should rise 8% to 12% from a cold reading to a hot reading.

I always use the same digital tire gauge to make the measurements. It is accurate to 0.5psi. You'll have different initial pressure settings for different load situations; one up, two up, bags and gear, etc.

So, for your 36 front and 44 rear cold settings, the hot readings should be:
front 39 to 40.5psi
rear 47.5 to 49.5psi.

I tend to run Pirellis. Despite being made in the same factory as Metzelers they really do feel better with air from the Dolomites. Bloody expensive mind.

I've heard good things about this stuff though...
