Had my own oil/coolant pump overhauled...

Post by towerworker »

Seems there is always something that is demanding our attention. I wanted to say I needed my coolant changed but there was a bit more to it this time!
At 59 years old the 'ol ticker was in need of attention so I parked my R at the doc's office and went in for a check. Bottom line was he made me leave it there while arrangements were made to get me to the local hospital. So now almost 2 weeks later I'm recovering from double bypass surgery and feeling fine. (Just anxious to get home) R's in the garage.

It'll be a few more weeks before I'll get a riding green light I imagine. Trying to take it easy in the meantime. I'm an old fart and an elder 'round here so I think I can get away with saying this.........you young whippersnappers here ....................take care of your health (and your heart)..........you only get one.

Wow. Glad to hear you are out of surgery and recovering. Also glad to hear that you caught it before something bad happened while on the bike!!

Speedy recovery.

Lordy. Your sense of humor survived even under pretty serious duress, we're glad for that! OTOH, who'd have doubted? Let us know how you're doing.

Many thanks for the comments and well wishes! I got back home yesterday and am feeling pretty good. Have a sore chest and I have to be a tad careful on what and how I do things for a while. But all in all.....no complaints. I've a good wife who has been a constant and caring companion thru all of my health's ups and downs.

Now it's time to go change my R's antifreeze..................

Spoke with Wayne on the phone yesterday and got an in-your-face reality of what he went thru. Every spoken sentence required at least one pause to expel and take another short breath, a common result of having had rib spreader tool major surgery, while still taking prescription painkillers. A few days ago I read posts written by Towerworker and I thought he was already home from the hospital, but I found out he was posting from the hospital bed on his SmartPhone!

Wayne, you have 4 very valuable things going for you that will ease the way back to a normal life. Determination, confidence, a sense of humor and a good wife. You may not realize it but those first 3 valuable things helped you get the 4th (really) valuable thing. BTDT. Now all you have to do is lay off of those bacon cheeseburgers and scrambled eggs.

Take it easy, let your body heal, and then get down to the important stuff. Maintain your body, then your bike, something we all need to do... ;)

I had my problem 13 years ago, @51 was able to skip the by-pass routine & had stents installed. Glad you're feeling better.....and things went well. Follow doc's orders , watch the diet, & take your meds....

Ron this was my 3rd time with heart problems. Got my first two stents 14 yrs ago (those were the current problem-both had blocked) and then 5 yrs later in 2005 had a 2nd minor MI and earned a couple more stents. Both times the heart sustained zero muscle damage (I was very blessed!)
This time there was no heart attack, just chest pain which prompted a visit to my doc. I was not at all surprised to find I needed bypass surgery. Strong family history of heart issues and hypertension. It was just a matter of time. But doing well and feeling stronger each day. Looking forward to getting back in the saddle in a few weeks.
