headlight bracket/windshield m6x20 bolts --

Post by dbdicker »

there are 2 bolts that connect the headlight bracket to the fork triple tree, they are also used as a mounting point for BMW touring screens - M6x20mm allen head (filister) bolts.

These are quick becoming my nemesis -- so close to the forks and with a curve in the headlight bracket that blocks a direct purchase with an allen socket -- What are the mechanics using to get at these for loosening, but particularly tightening? there must be a tool, or adapter that makes this a lot easier, I've sweated up 3 work shirts just trying to get a half cycle on one of them.

Help!

A Craftsmen Mid-Length Ball hex bit, allows enough movement to attach the bolt. Also you may want to consider using a longer 25mm Stainless bolt which will allow for more thread engaement and some blue loctite.
or Remove the top bolt for the fork leg and compress the leg (one side at a time).
