Fuse #1

What could cause fuse number 1 to self destruct ? The bike is a standard 1997 R1100RT . I thought at first the fuse blew because it was old so I replaced with new , turned on ignition , it blew again. Did this twice just to be certain and each time fuse 1 blew. Any thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated

Sorted - it turned out to be a bad wire for the rear brake light switch shorting to earth. Cut out wire and replaced with new - jobs a good un.
