Suitcase Flat Lids for BMW R1200R
R1200, K1200GT & K1300GT bikes

I recently purchased a set of flat pannier lids from Hornig in Germany having previously fitted BMW flat lids to an R850R and RS1150R. I have to say that the new ones, which were made in France by [email protected], are not up to the standard of the BMW ones and are not a very good fit, to the extent that I have to force one side open as the locks do not engage correctly.
Although I do like riding with them as they make filtering and slow maneuvering much simpler.

After a number of E Mails to Hornig and Hardracing there was a suggestion that they would send replacements but these have not materialized. In my mind I am now trading off the benefit that I get from a slimmed line bike against the inconvenience of opening and shutting the cases. Has any one out there any experience of fitting these lids?

I did put some negative feedback on the Hornig Web Site but this has not appeared. This confirms my suspicion that many sellers will only include positive feedback, again has any one any experience of this?

I also have these lids mounted on a spare set of bmw side cases. They look really nice but I rarely use them because I've been spoiled by the capacity of the stock cases.
I purchased them a couple of years ago and reported on this forum that they were no where near the quality of the stock bags. Flimsy, hard to close and not waterproof - but they look good.

Thanks for your response - it is in line with what I have discovered although as yet I have not been out in heavy rain so I do not know whether they are waterproof. Surprisingly we have had a very dry summer in England.

I have a set. No way in hell they're waterproof.

I got mine used for like $90, and even at that price I was so disappointed with the look (crappy) and the feel (cheap and flimsy) that I never put 'em on my bike. In fact, I loaned 'em to a buddy who put 'em on his cases. Recently, he was out of the country and left his R in my garage. I ran the cases on my bike for a while with the city lids, and really liked the form factor—I do a lot of lane splitting every day, normally just run a topcase in traffic. Anyway, they don't look as bad on the bike, but still still feel really wimpy. I really wish there were OEM city lids.

The city lids are nothing close to the quality of OEM, but once you get over that, they are good for day trips.

They look decent and you can still get what you need in them for day trips without the bulk of the OEM huge bags. When I go a trip, it takes me 15 minutes to put the OEM ones back on.
