Muffler off.. Then on again..

I (as some of you may know from the other threads) pulled the Muffler off my 04' and put on a short tip a bit ago. I have since run three tanks of fuel through it (about 450miles). Today I pulled the tip and put the stock muffler on. The low end rumble was nice, but there was (as has been noticed) little performance improvement and I lost about 2 miles per gallon. The trade off was just not enough to leave it that way.

Mind you I liked the loss of the weight, but I think I will look for an after market can and go that route..

My 04' does not have the CCP plug so I might not have enjoyed the full short pipe benefit..

In any case I thought I'd share my experience..

Carry on..

-Peter

I pulled the ccp one time many moons ago. Fuel mileage dropped and no noticeable change in performance. I've never changed the can as I like the bike quiet. After all it's a BMW. They're supposed to be quiet right? :)

I'm an old fart. Old farts like quiet.

I also like them quiet, and I'm not even an old fart... 8)

me too...
Due to the exhaust lowering there is even an extra bend before the muffler.

The quietness makes me happy. It sounds "german overengineered" which is what I like.

in fact...

If, indeed, "LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES" like i've seen on countless bumper stickers stuck to the back rusty old cars...and tshirts worn by filthy middle aged women....

I will surely soon be dead.

So, goodbye cruel world. :(

Hey Towerworker - did you happen to notice my Harley, err. . ., I mean my mufflerless Roadster this past weekend at the Hungry Mother weekend? My first time out with you guys sans the can. I don't think most people noticed! It's still pretty quiet! ;)

Speaking as a fellow old fart, I like 'em quiet too but R1150R without the exhaust hardly qualifies as loud.

Vann, come to think of it I did notice you had the curved extension on yours. And I did notice the sound. I just couldn't remember if it was that way last time i saw you. Which was last summer or the one before? You, Bob and I had lunch I think that day. Does that have any effect on your fuel mileage?
