I can't believe its been more than two years since I posted here last.
I'm trying to sell my 2003 R1150R - don't really want to but I don't ride much and need the money - and the first buyer in months that seemed mildly interested drove an hour and a half just to tell me he didn't like the rusty bolt heads. It wasn't even a negotiating tactic - he wanted nothing to do with the bike and said he was looking for something cleaner. The bike has never spent a lot of time sitting out in the rain (was always covered or in a storage shed) but has been driven in the rain and in winter and I guess its remotely possible that the air could be saltier here not far from the ocean. I'm not sure what I could have done to prevent them from rusting but I guess I should clean the up a bit - I've read a few things on the forums and elsewhere - WD40, PB BLaster, scotchbrite, and then hit them with a spray wax (may not be a great idea for disc bolts). He also said that its a sign that things you can't see are also going bad. I'm not exactly sure what he was talking about.

Yeah, Im also kinda fanatical about rust on my bike as well...I had some mild corrosion accumulating on the manifold bolts..I cleaned them up with a little bit of elbow grease and rust remover..Basically what ive been doing since is treating it with thin coat of oil when its put up (wait til it cools first) . This has helped keep the rust at bay..As far as the rotors..I wouldnt put any petroleum anything near the braking system unless you are trying to sabotage the guy...Make sure you cash the check first ..Just Kidding..For those however it may just take some steel wool and patience to clean it up...

Also as an extra if I ride and the bike gets wet, or dirty from road debries Ill go ahead and wash and use the leaf blower to dry it..So far in the 3 yrs of ownership this has keep the bike in good shape/condition..
