I picked up my Montego Blue R1200R last Thursday. Stopped by the dealership a few days earlier just for a visit. Sales person saw me admiring the R and asked how I liked my GS. I told him not so much but I liked my Triumph Bonneville even less. He says they might trade 2 for 1. I told him probably not since they were both 2012 and financed. Long story short he made it happen, my 2 upside down's went to right about even and I wound up with the R and even got the special deal for free system cases going on now. I couldn't be happier, this R absolutely rocks, probably the nicest all round bike BMW makes even though I'm kind of partial to the F800R. Anyway looking forward to a long happy relationship.

Congratulations. You will quickly realize that the blue is absolutly the best color for this great bike... It looks fast even on the side stand.

With a few thousand miles on my bike, the seat is actually quite comfortable. The transmission snicks lightly through the gears. The engine pulls smoothly throughout the rev range. Oh yea, and it sounds great! Last tankful of gas 47 mpg. I also think it's quite fast, but of course could not comment on that.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours.

In fact, I picked up my 2013 Blue R1200R on 6/22.
I was riding my 09 R12R home from NJ to VT and stopped by Max's CT on the 20th to be home for my anniversary that night. He had really pretty blue one on the floor. I jokingly asked if he could make me an offer I couldn't refuse on trading the 09 - and darn him, he did although I didn't accept it just then. I rode on home and then talked it over with SWMBO and she encouraged me to go ahead (no wonder we have been happily married for 43 years!).

She called Max back on Friday and between the deal on the bags and the MOA discount and them wanting the 09 without any of the farkles I had installed, a deal was made. I frantically started stripping off bits and pieces (Cal Sci screen and BMW windscreen (anyone want a pre '10 tall BMW screen mount?), handguards with ugly but noticeable LED lights, P3 brake lights, Eastern Beaver Fuse block, Mudsling, aftermarket bash plate, GPS mount and power, headlight protector). I rode back down to CT Saturday morning and they swapped the stock luggage rack for the top case mounts and rack (w Givi mount on top) on the 09. By 4:30 all the paperwork was done and I rode off up US 7 back to VT (very nice way to vary speed/RPM). Then headed back down to NJ on Sunday on the bike. 380 additional miles later (8 of last 10 in a downpour), was safely back in NJ.

Last Saturday I then rode back up to Max's for the 600 (well, almost 800) mile service, then back on up VT where the bike is now housed for the moment (didn't want it in the hotel parking lot for week + while I am out at the rally).

Interesting feature of the newer R12R's is the new instrument pod which acts as a mini-fairing. Even up to significantly extra-legal speeds, I had relatively quiet air at my chest and clean air at my helmet. I think it was quieter and less buffeting than with the Cal Sci! However, with the more comfortable "Comfort Seat", I am closer to the bars and my legs are a bit closer to the cylinders. I managed to bash my shin 2x pretty hard when doing my usual flip up onto the cylinder to rest my knees. Have to learn to swing the leg out a bit farther than on the 09!

So now we have the '12 red R12R for Beth and '13 blue one for me. Perhaps this will be my last bike. I figured I just bought new shocks, new tires, new seat and "extended" warranty and the 30k service that was due for the 09 for not much more than the cost of those items :)

Cy - was wondering about that comment.. :) Is it the 90th Anniversary model with the gold calipers? That has actually gotten my attention at Cross Country, but I doubt if they'd come up with the trade in on my '07 with 70k on it that might swing it with SWMBO..

See you when you get back from Oregon.

But in fact the original 2007 crystal grey ones are the fastest.

My Dark Ferro Blue will wup all y'all's arses'. And it's an 1150 too. But the real big advantage I've got over y'all is that mine has had proper antifreeze servicing every year. (done it myself)

It will even go pretty fast on it's side too.

The white skunk stiles on my Classic streamline the air over the bike, making it THE fastest in the R12R line! A scientific fact.

You can all be forgiven for thinking these things because you have not driven a Phantom Grey Matte Metallic one.

This is obviously why they paint their tanks this color, makes 'em better.
