Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Location

The temp displays a way-lower-than-ambient reading. I'd like to check the connections at the sensor. Where's the sensor located?

David, I would guess part 8, an air-temperature sensor, inside the air box.

If you remove the filter, you should be able to get to the connection.

Thanks, Bill.
But I think that's the intake air temperature sensor. There's a separate sensor for ambient air temp - the R12R wiring diagram in the Haynes shows a second sensor for ambient. The text describes its location on the RT and ST, but is silent as to the R.

Is it showing degrees C rather than degrees F?

Hi David. Mine is a 2012, but it may be the same as your '07. Look behind the headlight. That's where mine is. On the top left as you're sitting on the bike. There is a 1 inch circular recess with a pointed black sensor in the center. Looks like the protruding end of a big odometer cable, but it's black. You'll find it. Getting to the connection will be your quest. Have fun! BTW: mine is often 1 degree optimistic. Never found it to read lower than measured ambient temp. Regards.

Nope. All afternoon today (several short trips) it displayed 61.1F, while the air temperature was somewhere in the mid-70s. By the end of the day, the bike had been outside for about three hours, with a lot of in-town riding in traffic, so it was surely warmer than indicated.

Thanks, Clem. I just went out to the garage and looked...and didn't see it. But I have my PathBlazer module ziptied there, and it and its wires impair the view. I'll take a better look tomorrow in the daylight.

Had to shoot through my Z-Tech screen, so it isn't very good.

The "outside" air temperature sensor on my R1200R shows at least 5 degrees hotter than actual. My Honda Ridgeline did the same thing, only up to 10 degrees. I asked my motorcycle service department if there was a way to calibrate it, and they deferred. They said I was getting reflected heat off the pavement. I believe them because my Ridgeline was accurate when parked. Like the fuel gauge, I have come to accept it as an estimation.
