Former looker joining the board

Hello out there!

I was turned on to the board by Don Eilenberger, after having posted some questions to the MOA Hexhead forum. It has been really wonderful to read all this great info regarding what has rapidly become my favourite bike.

My introduction to the R model was a bit unusual. I was originally looking at an RT as a replacement/upgrade for my old Yamaha 600, but I couldn't justify spending the money. Then I realized that a good bit of my riding was on gravel and old asphalt roads, and dreaded the thought of dropping a fully faired bike. Therefore, I decided to delay my purchase and put new rubber on the Yamaha. I went in to the dealership to order the tires, and sitting inside the door was a freshly-traded 2007 R1200R. I test drove the R, fell in love with it, and eventually brought it home with me.

This picture was taken the day I brought it home. Since then, the Shad top box has been replaced with a Givi V46, and a set of Hepco and Becker engine guards have been added. I have ridden 1500 km since I bought it (250 km in the past two days), and I am looking forward to a lot of riding this year.

Once again, glad to finally join in.

Ken

Welcome, Ken! Think it's safe to say Don is the resident expert of R12Rdom.

Welcome. Looks like you have a nice setup. I'm sure you will continue to enjoy the bike ... It is a ton of fun.

I use a Givi e52 on my bike. I use their top plate adapter. How is your top case attached?

I also use the Givi top plate for attachment. The previous top box was attached with machine screws and nuts drilled through the Givi plate. The installer also ground down the latching hook with a file (or possibly a belt sander). I didn't like the resonance I could hear from the mounting arrangement, so I bought a new M5 plate to go with the box.

Hi Ken,

Glad you got the bike, and glad you found your way over here. There are very few forums as friendly and useful as this one, which is great since the group here pretty much loves the R12R..

Lots of good info here. Spend a bit of time poking around.
