Wunderlich Trophy Fairing Installed - Impressions and Pics.

After reading a recent thread about the Wunderlich Trophy Fairing, I decided to buy one for myself. I have tried the BMW Sport Windshield and the High Windshield. Both were unsatisfactory. The High Windshield is buffeting and loud and the Sport Shield does not provide enough protection. I consider the Sport Shield to be loud too but it is the better of the two windshield options as I can't stand excess buffeting.
After installing the fairing today, I can say the instructions are lacking. I'm no shop whiz but I'm not a beginner either. I found it easiest to just dump out all the parts (screws etc.), arrange them by size and use the (poor) pictures supplied to put the fairing together. Be careful as the brackets have sharp edges and will scratch anything, like a speedo housing, they come in contact with as you slide the fairing in place. Some additional machining to round the edges would have been nice here. For the most part, forget the English translation of the German instructions. What should have been a short assembly job, with proper instructions, turned into an afternoon project. Now that I've done it, I can take it off and on in about 20 minutes.
The Wunderlich Fairing, at $800, is far from cheap. It's a pretty nice kit with factory matching paint but... Is it better than the BMW High Windshield? For me, yes. It gives up a bit in protection to the high windshield but the noise and buffeting are much improved when compared. Is it better than the Sport Windshield? Yes, but the Sport Windshield is a close second. The air is smoother off the fairing but it's still pretty noisy. The buffeting seems to be less and the protection is better too. Despite being better in every category, it is not exactly leaps and bounds better, just marginally. I am going to keep it and my Sport Shield setup is going on ebay. If you've got an extra $800 burning a hole in your pocket, get the fairing. If you're on a budget, keep or get the Sport Screen you'll be 90% there with less than half the cost. On the other hand, I think the Wunderlich Fairing looks great, better than either windshield. I even got a compliment from a lady at the post office today.
