Greetings fellow riders, anxious to pick up a 2004 R1150R Tuesday, a bit concerned regarding seat height. specifications show about 31.1 inches. It has a R. Mayer saddle and Wilbers''s shocks, front and rear. I suspect these lower the stance some?

I am 5' 8" with a 30 inch inseam. Comments Please!!!!

Hi, Well I have an '04 rockster and I have ohlins so the seat to ground is higher than stock.(I will have to measure it) but I do know with a sargent seat the seat to peg is 19.5 "
34" inseam.

No load, no cases,5 gal fuel...33" from floor to seat.

Did you sit on and/or ride it before handing over any money? That should be a good indication of whether or not it will fit you...

Hi, I, too, am 5'-8" and have 29 inch inseam. Back in the day of two rear shocks, seat height was never a problem. Frankly, I don't need or use all of that rear shock travel.

My '02 R-bike had the high seat when I got it. Bought it over the internet from a dealer that was over a thousand miles away; so didn't have a chance to try it out first. I had sat on a newer R1200R in a dealer's show room and the stock seat height on that seemed okay. The high seat was a real challenge when coming to a stop. I got a low seat off of ebay for something like $75.00 and sold the high one here on this forun for about the same price. It seems most taller guys want the high seat and want to lower the foot pegs to get more leg room. I don't have that problem. Foot pegs are just right.

The low seat still borders on "too high" for me. But last fall I had the stock low seat recovered and the guy that did it must have pulled the covering tighter than it was before, because I noticed a slight height difference, not a whole lot, but it is lower. I didn't have lowering the seat in mind when I had it recovered. I just didn't like the stock fake carbon fiber look of the stock covering or the feel of its surface. It is now covered with a marine grade black vinyl and I think looks much better and is also quite a bit more comfortable.

For what it's worth, I have developed a technique of using only the rear brake and putting my left foot down first when coming to a stop. I sort of lean over to the left as I plant the left foot.

Check out what seat you have. There are actually three different seat heights. I can send pics of the three seats via direct email. This forum only uses off-forum picture posting and for me is a real pain. Get the low seat. It will make a difference.

Does anyone know the relative difference in height between the seats?...the stock, vs. the Low seat vs. a Sargent? I've done some searching here and couldn't find it posted. Sorry if I missed it.

You can't suspect anything. Both the seat and the shocks can set the bike taller or shorter depending on how they are built/setup. Both are custom set ups.
Also, the width of the seat can make it harder for you to touch the ground even if it is physically lower to the ground, iow, wider makes it harder for you to reach the ground and narrower makes it easier.

True. A stock seat is "lower" than a Sargent seat, as Sargent is wider and more comfortable, but you lose some leg reach.

I don't suppose the seats are labeled as to which they are... Be nice to know for sure what I'm starting with. More loft might be good!

Look at the pictures. Look at your seat. You ought to be able to figure out which one you have. A Wider aftermarket seat will make a difference, too. Wider equals harder to reach the ground. To my knowledge, trying to adjust the seat height with the shock spring preload or damper setting, might get you a little lower, but that's not what they are there for and might also not be the best setting for actually riding the bike.

Well yes, with the pictures in mind I did look at the seat. It is obvious. Mine is the tall (thickish) and I was surprised. Nearly 6 inches instead of three shown in the photo for the low seat. Chiding due.

No chiding intended. From the replies, I was just beginning to wonder if anyone looked at the pictures. I found that first pic of the three seats next to each other online somewhere. It does make the difference pretty obvious. Helped me figure out that I originally had the high seat. I think all of the seats are built on the same seat pan...same width at the bottom...so the low seat has a wider seating surface which I perfer over the higher seats, too. Have a good one.

I have to tell you that my bike has the heated grips and requires two one inch ID grips; so I had to buy two pair to get two one inch ID grips. They come with one 1 incher and one 7/8th incher. It was about a two hour job after I got the old grips off and trimmed all of the old rubber off of the heating elements. I can't remember now exactly how/what I had to do, but I do remember having to take the plastic part off of both ends and cutting the rubber rings off and then ended up sliding them back on once I got the main grips on to get the bar end spacing right. Also, used quite a bit of dishwasher liquid and squirting WD-40 with the spray tube in between the grip and the handlebars. Not trying to make it sound so much of a pain in the butt, but you do learn a lot doing something....the first time.

For me, it was worth it. I do liked the way they look and feel (they are soft rubber and feel kind of sticky). I also like the smaller diameter, since I have small hands.

What is a "high" seat worth? I have both stock seats, I mounted a Sargent , it is about between the short & tall OEM's , and a-tad more narrow,.fits me perfectly.
