I was wondering if I should open a r1250r section, or if that was a bit premature.

Don't they make a big bore kit for the 1200 boxer with the DOHC?

Great idea! Not premature. Wet-head engine is certainly coming. A new R1250R section would be a welcome addition to the site IMO.
Re: R1250R
Folks, back here in Germany we already have the aircooled R1400 (big bore kit with modified piston rods and pistons). That toy has around 145 HP and over 150 NM.
I would never buy the new watercooled bike unless it has been on the market for at least a year. And even then I am not sure because the construction has some flaws in my opinion (just think about the location of the clutch and the generator and the cylinders are one piece with the engine case) ...

Re: R1250R
I just bought my 1200R with DOHC in the fall. Its got enough balls for me. I think I could have bought an S1000RR (190 hp) for less money. Its the R I love, not the HP.
I love my R the way it is. I rode my Airhead for 20 years, hope to keep the camhead for a while.
Once its been out and proven I may want one, but not the first year. Let those GS folks deal with a new model. There are sure to be some upgrades.
HEY Catchina! RED is the best color!

Re: R1250R
How about just using a thread for now? Maybe pinning it would make it easily accessible. Until it's out, I'm not sure there would be enough topics for a different section, so I think a thread would do.

Agree with objectuser, best to wait until the r1250r is actually out before creating a separate section. What do you think 2014?

Re: R1250R
In searching around for R1250R photos I came up with the below images. I would take this one for a test ride. It looks like the comfortable offspring of an R1200S and R1200R.
This one looks more on the sporty side, which isn't necessarily bad, but I can't see anywhere to mount side cases. Interesting pipe end on the same side as the shaft.

More like the Photoshop offspring of a Hexhead R1200R and the K1200R. The second is probably hacked from a few different bikes - seeing some S1000RR in there...It looks like the comfortable offspring of an R1200S and R1200R.
Either way, both of these are pretty sporty/modern interpretations. I'm confident it won't look anything like either of this 'shops. The roadster will probably look very much like the current R1200R, with some cosmetic updates here and there. The shaft will be on the opposite side, like on the R1250GS.
I'm already working on a sticker for my boxer. It'll say "Exhaust ports in the front, poker in the rear."

Re: R1250R
Karamazov is right. The first one has the tail + fuel reservoir of the K1200/K1300, the oil cooler under the vents taken from the R1150R and the fork from the R1200S. The second one has indeed many elements of the S1000RR .... From the style aspect I prefer the second one ... My personal opinion.
But I would rather suspect that none of these will ever be built.

Re: R1250R
Since both are using the "old" hexhead engine I doubt very much that they are anything but photoshop efforts.
Question - with the new wasserhead - where are we going to rest our legs on long rides? Won't have the option of putting my tootsies on top of the cylinders as I can with the R12R..

That's easy Don. You'll continue to rest them the same place you do now - on the heads of your flawless '07 R1200R.Question - with the new wasserhead - where are we going to rest our legs on long rides? Won't have the option of putting my tootsies on top of the cylinders as I can with the R12R..

I thought water cooled would still have cylinders in the same configuration, suitable as leg rests.deilenberger wrote:Since both are using the "old" hexhead engine I doubt very much that they are anything but photoshop efforts.

Re: R1250R
Yeah, gonna be pretty tough with the intake ports there... I'm guessing the crash bar mounted highway pegs or spark plug cover pegs will be big sellers for the R1250 models. It's a shame, there's really no feeling like coming out of some spirited riding in the twisties and stretching out on the cylinder heads for a long haul on the superslab.I thought water cooled would still have cylinders in the same configuration, suitable as leg rests.
