From what I see a new Remus header and slip on were installed right out of the box?? What type of HP and torque improvements do you see with that setup and how does it effect the warranty? I like the looks of the Remus slip-on.

Thanks

Yes about 300 miles on it as of today. Dealer approved and fully warrantied.

Remus Header
SC Project slip-on
Power Commander V with custom dyno tune

I installed the PCV and exhaust myself, dealer was going to be very expensive for these two easy projects. Stock the bike seemed a little sluggish from a start and also to pass on the highway. Drove it with just he exhaust, sans PCV and notice a significant difference, put the PCV on and a moderate improvement.

Dyno-tune improved the HP only marginally 3HP, but made the Air Fuel mix across the RPM range accurate which makes for a nicer more smooth power flow.

Didn't get a Dyno reading with the stock setup but I am sure the change is significant with the change I feel in performance.

Notice the weight differences for the stock parts... probably 10 to 12 lbs lighter.

Did they build the exhaust specifically without branding? Also, any setup change for fuel/air with just exhaust? Direct from Europe or US supplier?

Ps. Looks awesome!!

Looks good, thanks for the info. I have a 2013 and put about 300 miles on it before bad weather settled in. When I take it in for the 600 mile service I will discuss the header and slip on mods with the mechanic.

Regarding the branding of the exhaust... They supplied a sticker but I don't think I'll put it on. There is a section on the end piece that has the SC Project laser etched and looks great. I like the stealthy look it has.

I was pricing some of the US aftermarket slip-on exhaust systems, pricing at about $600 for the muffler and another $200 for the middle piece. That makes the system about $800+ USD. Look online for the SC Project website, they shipped this from Italy for 380 Euro +/- $560 USD.

PS: the REMUS headers (only header system I could find), is about $500

Full exhaust in my opinion is a MUST for the R12R, the bike came to life after this change. The PCV enables an appropriate diet of air/fuel ratio. I just ordered the dual mode switch (for the PCV) so that I can have a specific map for the current mode with quieter baffle module installed and one for it removed (I'm guessing much louder and much greater increase in HP).

300 miles on your nice new blue bike and you're talking about exhaust making it come alive?...
Your engine isn't even close to getting worn in and for the next 3000 miles or so it will continue to "come alive", regardless of what you do to improve it. If you think it's good to ring a motor out on a dyno during the break in period... well good luck with that.

This isn't some Japanese bike, and while you can improve the tone, lose a little weight and slightly improve response, making the bike actually "faster" doesn't happen with a the few HP gains IMHO.
Like I said though, if you like it then right on it's a great bike, I like the Blue color.

That's right. New personality with the new exhaust, the stock system was choking it with the emission control systems.

The only part of this whole thread that makes any sense at all is Lost Rider's post.

Sorry, but you don't have enough miles on your bike to be taken seriously in here when talking about it's performance.
My 12R has been on a Dyno and has a fuel controller made by some of the best tuners in the world, with titanium Akropovic Exhaust, the best money can buy... with less than 2 HP (at the rear wheel) actual, not marketing gains. While it did slightly improve throttle response and give better MPG because the OEM map was found to be rich in many places, it did not transform the bike. Just made it a little smoother and get slightly better milage.
Granted mine is the hexhead and yours in the cam head, but going on what I know the difference is negligible and how much each can be squeezed for more power is very negligible.

Not trying to discourage you from making it yours, or raining on your parade for being happy with your mods, or posting in here about it, we're all ears, but only 300 miles on the bike?...
That's one mornings ride...
Your bike is an infant, ready to grow up into a nice BMW Roadster someday, hardly competent to be performance evaluated at this time though.
Plus, any dealer that supports a bike getting dyno'd and modded during break in is full of idiots IMHO.

I have to agree with Joe on this one ... that is a day's ride around here. Put some miles on it ...

Anyone who mods and dynos a BMW with only 300 kms or mls on the clock is a dumb idiot. This is NEVER to be done before min 5000 kms or equivalent mls.

Any I am not a fan of these powercomanders / rapidbikes and other aftermarket stuff. These thingies plug into the wiring harness and provide extra cables and parts which apparently can go south ...

The best thing is to modify to original ECU with rexxer (http://www.rexxer.eu/e_index.cfm). Usually the original mapping is to lean due to the need to save on fuel consumption - which sometimes provides a bit of rough riding. I got my R1200S rexxered and the result can be seen below.

Yes it sure did... glad I'm not the one with the harshest post. No trying to discourage anyone from posting or being happy with their beautiful new bike but the facts are the facts. Or at least factual opinions based on experience.

I'd think between all of us on this forum I'd bet we have almost a million miles on our R's collectively with many different mods, most of which the owners are happy with for their own reasons. I also believe the general consensus is that nothing you can bolt onto a BMW R1200 will result in significant power gains. An improvement over all, sure, but like I said the boxer isn't like a japanese bike ready to have significant gains with common mods.

Steven, keep on sharing around here, get some miles on your bike, you'll be amazed at how the motor will open up and really start pulling harder when it's worn in. MAJOR difference from when new even without any mods, with your mods it should be even better, if they didn't damage anything ringing it out during break in. You have a great looking bike, it's just tough love by a sometimes tough crowd that's BTDT, in the end all information adds to the pool around here.

I'm sure Joe remembers a few years ago someone was briefly on the list that had a long list of major modifications he intended to do to his engine. I often wonder what happened to him, he never got back to us. I think the major mechanical modification ever reported on this list was that cam advance kit that is out on the net somewhere.

I learned my lesson a few years ago with my Valkyrie. The hot trick on the Valkyrie list, at the time, was to drill holes in the air box in specific places. Guaranteed to increase horsepower. Maybe it did but it was so far up the RPM range that I rarely got there, it did however make the bike a dog off the line. A relatively cheap lesson learned - it only cost $145 for a new stock plastic air box. I think (know) we're way past the point where shade tree engineering can make a substantial increase in the performance of these modern motorcycles.

But if someone wants to try it would be interesting to know how they made out -

I've had good luck with power commanders, on several of my bikes.
Including my RR.

Exhaust and PCIII got me around 9% increase in peak power, and vastly improved fueling all the way up...

Too bad, he has a nice looking blue bike with nifty exhaust.
I guess I'd be embarrassed too for putting a brand new bike on a dyno, and be pretty pissed at the dealer for supporting it if I didn't know any better. ;)
Still, the photos of a R being uncrated are always good, I hope he comes back.

It was Harry that ran him off for sure. :smt023
I do wonder what happened to that fellow that was going to make the 12R into a super bike from a ways back?
Seriously though Harry, I just drilled holes in Nancy's new CRF250L air box, best cheap mod ever said the internet!
No poo.

She says it's twice as fast now.

2, see!
